Zeik and Jasmine had their selves a candy party today, they stole a basket of candy from the counter, I found a wad of what looked like one of them had thrown up riddled with candy wrappers, grass, and wood chips.
I have already had to throw all my firewood away because they wouldn't leave it alone they must have some stashed. I am kinda worried if they hurt themselves by their little adventure today.
We never had any counter surfing issues till Jasmine came, now Zeik acts so foolish it is unreal, its everyday they do something else every time I dog proof something they get into something freaking new
They stole half of our garden this year, I am getting really frustrated.
I cant afford a stomach cleaning operation for 2 dogs, they don't seem to be smart enough to not eat stuff they shouldn't.
I bet they won't like it, but I guess they crating is going back in affect when we leave for work. I have tried to give them a nice home and they destroy everything and act like idiots. We have spent $4,000 plus this year on dogs and I can't afford much more. |

I feel your pain. Haus seems to be getting into something all the time too, and I'm here with him. Yesterday he ate a pan of Halloween cookies and the day before he got himself a big bowl of ice cream that my husband left on the table. He also eats bushes, toys and sticks. Sometimes you just gotta laugh.

This is precisely why mine are still crated. And we have 4...I would be afraid of them wrestling in the house. We have a big curio cabinet filled with glass. I get nervous when they get near it.
Not only that, but Jake's previous owners told us he ate through a pantry door and cleaned it out Jake is not in a crate, but he is closed in the dog room. The other three are in crates in there. There is just too much they can get into that can hurt them. They are much safer crated. |

I understand your frustration. Taren ran down the stairs like a 1000 slime festooned demons were hot on his trail, only to catch his leash on the door jamb as he spun his feet when he hit the tile. He ripped the whole thing out of the wall, taking a large hunk of baseboard with him. My poor house is never going to be the same. If my kids would have done this, they would have been grounded for eternity. Every time I get one thing fixed, I am working on another. One step forward, two steps back, but I love the little booger. Here's hoping tomorrow is a better day for you! |

um... yeah... talk to me about thinking your dogs should "know better"!!
aint no such thing!
you must be more diligent w/ leaving stuff around id they are not crated... take a look for my sausage incident posts from July... and that was DOG FOOD they got into!
If I had to add up all I've spent on dog-stomach issues... you'd be shocked! Suffice to say it's close to 10k!
also... it's really not funny when they get into something someone else is forgetful with...like the bowl of ice cream... I just recently yelled at Chris for being careless...it could end up being the death of one of our babies and if that happens... I'll divorce him.
I'm serious.
moral?
crate or childproof everything and even then... be very watchful! |

| My husband has threatened to make my kids outside dogs when we get our house. I just don't say anything when he threatens... They will just have to live in their crates when no one is at home. |

Oh Chance is 4 months and 30 lbs now and when I say he eats everything I'm not kidding. Every single time I turn around he has something in his mouth! I've put everything I can up and away from him but before I know it he's tall enough to get to it or he jumps higher then he use to or he's learned to open something else. He ate the wire to our ipod, the wires to our cell phone charger, 2 wires to our computers, and the other night he ate through the wire to our dvd/dvr player which the wire was BEHIND our dresser. i have no idea how he even managed to get to that. And when I yell no and take it away from me he just looks at me like "hey I was having fun" I can see it in his face that he just doesnt get it. He has all the toys in the world but like a child he only wants to play with stuff he's not supposed to. His new thing now is counter surfing, he's finally tall enough and when I gate him in the kitchen for a meal and he's done he stands up and looks at me over the counter and I cant help but laugh cause he's too cute and I can not BELIEVE how FAST he is growing! |

Well here is our loses today... they opened the door to our bedroom, went into our bathroom emptied the wastebasket ALL OVER THE PLACE!
then chewed the wastebasket to shreds.
Our Bentwood rocker Sherry's uncle gave us when we bought our house now has rockers 4 inches shorter.
We put everything we thought would be a potential chew or something that could be destroyed out of reach, so they open doors now!

I think it's time for two nice sized crates!
Hey... on the bright side, I use my kid's crate to stack stuff on, so it has two uses! |

| I think you might want to try crating them. It may be for their own good. |

I love these two so much, but dag-gone it, they are really testing me.
Sherry's uncle says smack their bottoms with a rolled newspaper, I really don't want them to be afraid of me as a result of the spanking.
Jasmine responds to scolding, Zeik thinks everything is play. He is slowly learning the scolding thing.
I think I am going to crate from here on out. I am going to start with Zeik in the morning when we leave for work. I think he is ring leader of the mischief.
Here is another thing I noticed tonight, Jasmine came down the hall and hung her head when she seen me, I go into the kitchen, she had took a cardboard dish from a frozen potpie out of the garbage and it was on the floor, so I am pretty sure she was the guilty one there. |

| These babies are all the SAME!! It's so nice to know mine isn't the only destroyer. Georgia is 15 mos old now and she never ceases to surprise me. It seems that as soon as we get passed one bad habit she's developed another. Her new thing is chewing up the blankets I put in her kennel. I've thrown out about 4 blankets in the last week because she eats the parts she tears off. I've tried leaving the blankets out of her kennel but she looks so pitiful trying to get comfortable without one. I fall for it and put another blanket in there. I wouldn't DARE leave her to run the house on her own... there'd be nothing left in it's original state and who knows what kind of harm she'd inflict on herself. Her kennel is her little safe haven. |

LOL Ahh, the life of a weim owner. Jack despises his crate and actually injures himself in an attempt to escape it, so we have no choice but to leave him be.
The worst thing Jack has eaten: the bottom half of my brothers bathroom door when he was dogsitting for me LOL Jack taught him the important lesson of "when mom says I MUST have my bones and toys at all times, she means it!"
Anyhow, despite having a toybox shaped like a bone, with HIS name on it LOL he still finds things to chew now and then. Lately its been my kitchen utensils. Jack LOVES to eat my wooden spoons and what not.
LOL We weim proof to the extent where my husband called me yesterday to tell me that the apple cookies, bread, and muffins that I baked... were placed back in the oven so Jack couldn't get them. LOL If we leave it on the counter or on top of the fridge... he'll find it.
Jack has even gone as far as removing decor off of my walls ... Apparently he didn't like what I had hanging?
But I agree with Sam and Haus ~ Sometimes you just have to sit back and laugh and remind yourself - part of owning a weim, is patience and a GREAT sense of humor!! |

Ah, this all sounds frighteningly familiar. Calvin is now six months and BOY are we hitting the Weim-zilla phase! He is crated during the day and knock wood seems to be totally fine in there, but if I leave him out without some distraction (kong, bone, etc) and I leave the room...forget about it. His latest obsession is hopping up ON his crate and eating everything paper off our counter. Books, notepads, bills, you name it, he's gotten into it. Or the big baby just cries and scratches at the gate. So far he's been bypassing the actual food (wha???) and even this morning countersurfed PAST the leftovers and went for the metal frying pan.
And of course, doggy deafness sets in every. single. time. he is disciplined. Either that or he gives me that classic look like, "What, mom! This is fun! I do not understand what the word 'no' means! I see your mouth moving and I don't understand a word you're saying!" |
