Poor Zeh. Not really sure what's going on with him. Since about a week ago he's been a little constipated, he poops very hard, dry poops that are just balls- he has a hard time getting it out (hate to be so graphic!). That's when I took him to work with my Saturday thinking he might be trying to bloat on me- he got very uncomfortable, very gassy, very lethargic, no bowel movement for 24 hours. Vet did an x-ray, all looks good inside. He finally pooped a real poop 24 hours after that. Since then he's been doing the same thing. He'll get a little constipated, have horrible gas and he hasn't pooped a good poop since that Monday when he did. It's all been little hard dried up.
He eats 2 cups of Taste of the Wild pacific formula in the am and pm and at lunch he eats a cup (still feed him lunch b/c Zuna is still eating lunch and he got very thin after surgery). The only thing different I've done is a dropped his food from 2 1/2 in the am and pm to 2 cups. I've been wetting his food the last few days thinking he hasn't been drinking enough- that's not helping. He gets about a tablespoon of salmon oil at night.
Any ideas? I was thinking of adding yogurt to his food will that help? |

| This is just an idea but when people are having the same sort of problem, it's recommended that they get more fiber. So maybe feeding some green beans or carrots might help the poop along as it's going through the digestive tract? |

| Pumpkin, caned, and not the pie filling kind, just plain canned pumpkin. Give him only a couple of tbsp. It helps with constipation and diarrhea. |

I would try digestive enzymes and slippery elm. The slippery Elm to me is the best thing made for digestive issues. I would also try adding canned or raw to his diet. Lots of moisture in that. Maybe he's not drinking enough. If nothing else works it may be the food doesn't agree with his system.

For diarrhea, slowly pour 12 oz. hot or boiling water over 1 T. of powdered bark, stirring constantly until mixture is smooth. Add a little honey if desired (dogs only). If constipation is the problem, use only 1 tsp. powder and proceed as above. Note that in smaller doses, Slippery Elm acts as a soothing lubricant while in larger doses, it acts as an herbal “glue” or bandage that the body will use where and as it is needed. |
