So true. I got the same type of stupid response the other day...
"What kind of dog is that?"
"He's a weimaraner"
"Oh, that's my favorite kind of dog!"
If it was my favorite kind of dog I would learn what they are called.
Or the rest of the weeks comments...
"He's a Weimerammer cross, right"
"No, he's a pure breed, Weimaraner"
"I don't think so, his eyes aren't blue and Weimerammer's have blue eyes"
"Wow, his colour is so unique. Are his brother's and sisters the same colour?"
"Yes, he's a Weimaraner and this is a typical coat colour."
"Are you sure he isn't a lab?"
Bleh....
"Oh, he's beautiful and so calm. That's the dog my wife wanted but instead we got this crazy, active, destroyer, who's too needy. Want to trade?"
"*heck* no! Weims are a very time intensive breed and it's taken work to make him the dog he is."
"Oh."
I'm sure they do nothing with their dog who is always barking in the backyard. I can only imagine what a Weim in their possession would act like.
"What a beautiful German Shorthair."
"He's a Weimaraner not a GSP."
"No, there's a Weimaraner down the street and he's brown with spots."
"I think you've got them switched." ....She scoffs at me and walks away. |

"Nice German Shorthair"
"He's a weimaraner"
"I knew that"
What did he think he was testing me to see if I knew what kind of dog I had? |

Jack is constantly mistaken for a Lab... we usually get the "Oh thats a beautiful lab, I've never seen one with eyes that color!"
Or for the folks thattell me how beautiful he is and ask what breed he is, LOL When I tell them he's a Weimaraner, I get the "Weima Wha?!" |

Hahaha!!! I love how everyone one thinks she's so cute!!! but man...some people are really stupid. And it happens more often then not.
"What kind of doing is that?"
"A Weimaraner"
"A WHAT?!"
"A Weimaraner. It's a German hunting dog"
"Oh.." *Goes silent for a bit. Looks at me all confused, like I have two heads*
A lot of people think she's a lab. And I just feel like saying "Don't insult her like that!"
"I love the colour! Are they all like that?"
"Yep. It's the breed"
"What is she again?"
"A Weimaraner"
*Does that blank stare again*
"How old is she?"
"14 Weeks"
"So she won't get much bigger than this?"
"Nope, she'll get pretty big!" *My turn to do the blank stare!*
"Are you going to breed her?"
"Nope. I don't want to"
"Why?"
"Because I know nothing about it"
"But it's easy. And you can make a lot of money"
"Uh nope. It's a lot more work and money then you think. And I have no intentions of trying to make "money" off my dog"
*They give me the evil eye*
I have resorted to telling people she's a Grey Ghost, because I just can't stand the Weimaraner discussion. It's exhausting after the 100th time. |

| I was out back with my dogs a couple weeks ago and there was a guy from verizon doing some work on the lines..we are getting Fios in our neighborhood. Any way, he says "those are beautiful dogs, do you breed those", I say "no, I rescue them", he turns around, walks back, looks at me, stunned and responds, "dogs like that need to be rescued?????, that's a *darn* shame"....I said "yes, they do and it is"...... |

Seriously funny! I've heard some dooozies just in the past week alone!
"Oooo - what a nice looking chocolate lab" (huh?)
"Look honey, it's one of those blue heelers!" (not even close!)
"That chocolate lab sure is a neat color of grey." (yes, he's the rare "gun metal grey" lab)
"Is that a green dog??" (no genius, it's just the reflection of the grass on his shiny coat)
"Nice color of dog. Is he neutered?" (No - once he is, his coat will change. *bangs head on wall*) |
More often than not, I get people go, "Is that a Weima-weima-meima-weima . . . " and after few seconds of letting them struggle, I interrupt them with the correct pronounciation. LOL
I've also gotten grey Lab (Boo! He looks NOTHNING like a Lab!), Blue Heeler, BLOODHOUND (Whaaaa?), Greyhound, Vizsla, and DOBERMAN. |

We were at the dog park Tuesday where a weim rescue group had brought some of their dogs. There was one guy there with what could have been a longhaired weim - right color, longish hair, weim face, size etc. Then we heard him tell someone who asked what he was that he was a silver lab! Let me tell you, all the rescue personnel had to hold their tongues! And he was not neutered, so he probably intends to breed him and sell the pups as silver labs!
People are nuts! |

Once we were asked if the boys were miniture Great Danes....hmmmmm now wouldn't that make a new posh breed of dog...mini danes! Then when you tell them they are Weimaraners they kinda do that head bob, and you know you want to just scream "google it you dumba$$"!!!......

| Kasper and I usually go around town walking or riding my bike. I wear my Zune so that I can be oblivious to people, but I turn it down low so I can still hear traffic, etc. People are always staring! I rode by these people and I hear one guy say to the other "That's one of them weimheimer dogs isn't it." It cracks me up. Kasper has also been mistaken for a chocolate lab. I was half tempted to ask if they were color blind. So, my advice to them is if they don't know what they are don't own one because they might be in store for a rude awakening! |

I have never gotten any comments like this! I know it's annoying when you get them all the time, but I'm still waiting. We only have people pronouncing Weimaraner incorrectly.
And I have only seen TWO Weims in person - EVER! One was at Petsmart in a different city and the other was a puppy in my neighborhood many years ago. I saw it once and never again. So it's no like Weims are a common dog around here. |
