I've recently noticed small dark spots on Winston's coat mostly on his side(ribs) but also some on his head near his ears. I was thinking they could be from playing with other dogs as they nip in those specific areas(perhaps a dogs version of a black and blue?). He has almost daily contact with other dogs. Please let me know if anyone has seen this or has any knowledge of what it could possibly be.

Most likely he is blowing his coat....Zane gets them atleast twice a year, more spots during spring and summer....We brush him really well and it helps loose all the dead hair...

I'm noticing the same thing on Porter. I was bathing him today after a long day at the beach and noticed that the dark spots weren't washing away. Porter's just over 4 months. I'm new to Weims so I'm also wondering if this is normal?

Yes, he's blowing his puppy coat (or shedding if he's older). Lots of posts here about it, I'm sure there's a picture somewhere. Don't worry, and brush him more often with a curry comb or something like that. A darker "eel stripe" down his back is also normal, more apparent when he sheds.
