Nasty kids!

Luckily all of our neighbours have pets.
Our neighbours to the back, who we share a fence with actually volunteered and rushed my dog Timbit when he was unconscious and was bleeding from the nose and mouth, when me and my sister were home alone without a car.
If it wasn't for them, my dog would have died in my backyard. He died at the vet's but with our help in ending his suffering. I'm very grateful for those neighbours.

Some people! Evil or Very Mad

I hope none of these people have their own pets!!

I think kids can be pretty cruel. I know puppy socialization is going to be important for my pup but I'm already dreading it. When Timbit was a young dog, we took him everywhere. I remember when a parent got mad at me after Timbit growled at their child; but what do you expect when your child is standing there pulling on the dog's tail and wont let go. Ugh kids can be so mean and rough. I guess some just don't even grow out of it!

Hey!

I started pulling Gunnars' tail when he was a pup(not real hard), so he would be accustomed to it, in case.
Now, as an adult, he associates it with play time! I think the only time he would really bite someone is if you were aggressive toward his mudder or the boys. Even if I was the aggressor!

When we first got Bunker my brother in law would came over and got him all stirred up. What's a stirred up puppy do? Jump. As soon as Bunker jumped up he threw him down on the floor. I was pissed to say the least. It ended up being easier to take Bunker for a walk or to the park when I knew he was coming instead of trying to teach my BIL anything until we taught Bunker not to jump.

You can usually tell "dog people" and "non dog people" a million miles away. I'm convinced that the world is separated into these 2 categories...

While most "non dog people" are idiots, I DO like it when my "dog people" friends correct my dog. Of course they do so appopriately.

I recently went field training with an agility person (Anyone see the Weim surfing video on MSN, that is her dog) and I could hear her scolding Riley "NO!!" As is his M.O. when he wants to be out hunting, he was chewing his chain. I didn't know and liked that someone else was correcting him, that way he will know it's not allowed no matter what.

I actually do find myself correcting other peoples' dogs (people I know)....

I like when other people correct Lincoln (appropriately, of course) for the same reason as you.

Today I was at the park and this man came over to see Linc and chat (he had a Weim at home) but he was getting him so riled up and I could see Lincoln was biting his hands and the man was saying "ow, his teeth are sharp!"...well ya they're sharp so tell him not to bite and don't stuff your hands in his face!

My father-in-law does this too, gets down on the ground with Lincoln and blows in his face, then Lincoln bites him on the nose and he laughs.

Takes a couple of days to "recover" from Grandpa's house..LOL

When Rosie was a pup we had a wierd incident I still reflect upon:

I was walking her and an older couple came out of their house to ask if they could see her - sure no problem. They'd had weims all their life and missed them dearly....well...the man started provoking Rosie, sure enough the puppy teeth come out...next thing I know, he's putting his bloody hand in her face trying to make her "realize she did something wrong"

G-R-O-S-S!!!!

I was somewhat embarassed that she nibbled, but lets face it, older people have very thin, fragile skin, and she was just a pup who was being provoked! He wasn't hurt or bothered by it obvisoulsly, but it skeeved me out and I'd been there long enough talking to them. Just a very wierd situation...I don't get people sometimes.

Exactly! When it's done appropriately, that's great. We do the same with my neighbours dog and he with ours. We also correct my parents dog which I don't think they like so much but it's out of control. My mother thinks her dog speaks English...and she feeds it cookies to do EVERYTHING. It doesn't listen to any command unless it's going to be fed. Oh, and she doesn't walk her so she's frustrated and BAD because of it.

This man yesterday really ticked us off because he got Django all wound up and then pushed his jaw down repeatedly when he tried to bite and shook him and was very aggressive. I felt like saying, "How about you get the #%$& away from him if he's biting you.

I was also already ticked off at him because there were two very sweet little children that were petting him when this man came over and they had to leave because he just pushed his way in and got the dog all excited. Prior to that, Django had been laying down very nicely while they were petting and talking to him. It was very sweet. Then HE happened. Jerk.

A couple of weeks ago we started telling people when they would approach us about petting him, "Please keep in mind that he's still a pup and hasn't learned all of his manners yet. He may try to nip you." Most of the time he wouldn't even try but at least they were aware. I don't know why I didn't do that yesterday. Not that it would have stopped that jackhole but it would have given us a very good reason to be a little more firm with him rather than just taking Django away.

Oh well, he's gone now and hopefully we'll never see him again.

This post brought back memories from waaaay back..I'll never forget the day that this stupid little kid from down the road was throwing rocks at our cattle dog who was going mental at the kid. My parents who were laying piping down seen what was happening and my mum who was still holding a bit of piping tried to scare the kid away by pretending she was going to throw the pipe at him. She swung back, knocked my dad with the piping and he passed out cold. The dog started barking even more at my dad, my mum started to cry and the kid laughed his merry way down the street.
What a circus. LOL

re: stupid people trying to train dogs. You know, the one's who find pee on the floor and beat the crap out of the dog? Or my favorite type--the tiny dog-as-jewelery type, who picks up their 3 lb dog when I pass them from across the street and then wonders why their dog flips out about other dogs. in fact, it amazes me that some of these people actually have normal dogs who aren't aggressive and don't do stupid stuff.

i work with a guy who just got a chow puppy. he grew up with a chow and said they were the sweetest dogs ever--except for the time it bit that person (and he actually said this with a straight face). apparently this puppy--who is 11 weeks old--snapped at a neighborhood child and made her face bleed. this guy said he picked the puppy up after that and "really didn't do anything" about it. this puppy also has started growling at people it doesn't know in the past week. he also lets it mouth his daughter. i wanted to smack the guy.

if you can't handle a dog, don't get a dog!

there is a reason i surround myself with dogs and dog people!

when tommy was a puppy and i would leave him in the back yard playing, i would always hear him yelping...went out there and nothing...and sometimes i heard him screaming...went out there and nothing...i thought it was just getting scared of noises or something...but one day he screamed so loud and i really thought something was wrong... (let me breathe, because i still get tears in my eyes when i think about this...)
....anyway, so that day i put him back out there, and i was hiding behind the curtains to see why my puppy was screaming all the times....and i saw why!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Evil or Very Mad Evil or Very Mad Evil or Very Mad Evil or Very Mad Evil or Very Mad
the family next door, put a slide by the fence, so their 3 kids all claimed on the slide, so they could see on our backyard and they were throwing rocks at my poor baby!!!!!!!!!!!!! Evil or Very Mad Evil or Very Mad Evil or Very Mad Evil or Very Mad
i swear, i was furious i was about to go next door and chock those kids!!!!!! what kind of respect towards animal did their family teach them??? and they had a dog too!!! my husband had to stop me, and lock me inside and he went and talk to their family. they moved the slide, they didn't even apologize, they got upset we told their kids off Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes .....

i still feel guilty my baby was out there getting hit, it really breaks my heart when i think about it, and now because of that, tommy would chew any child, he hates kids...

you think only random people are weird???? and what about professional people that work with animals???? i went to the vet once, and the vet technician was checking tommy's temperature (tommy had a muzzle on), so she was trying to lift his tail, tommy wasn't comfortable, and kept moving away, so she cornered him and yelled at him. tommy growled at her and she hit him hard on his head Shocked Shocked Shocked
i got up and i was about to hit her, and my husband put me back on my chair, and then i went out and filled a complaint about it...i was about to kill her Evil or Very Mad Evil or Very Mad Evil or Very Mad Evil or Very Mad i mean seriously!!!!!! WTF IS WRONG WITH PEOPLE???????

P.S. i think my poor husband has saved me from going to jail few times.... Twisted Evil
