We went to dog park today. It was a fantastic combo of muddy and icy. We went for a walk along the path until it got too muddy to keep walking and we turned around. We were almost back to the parking area when Nina ran past me with a dead animal in her mouth. I started yelling, "Nina, drop it! Nina come!" I'm in the middle of my screaming and this woman starts walking towards me saying, "I love your greyhounds!" "Actually, they're weimaraners" (back to screaming at Nina) "Are they related?" "No." (back to screaming) "OH MY GOD! THAT ONE HAS A DEAD BUNNY! EWWWWW! EWWWWW!" "She isn't going to get close to you." (back to screaming) "EWWWW! Fluffy, no, Fluffy, stay away, FLUFFY! Fluffy, that thing is as big as you!" (translation: "Fluffy, watch out, they'll eat you next!") Lady runs away with her small dogs. Cache steals rabbit (yes, it was a full-grown rabbit) from Nina and runs off with it. I decided to get the girls in the car and then wrestle with Cache. Girls in car. Cache runs over. Grab Cache. Drag him over to the trashcan. I try to get his front paws up on the trashcan so that I can shake it out. As I put my arm under his leg, I touch the nasty rabbit. Drop Cache. Notice another dead rabbit in the trashcan. Ew. I eventually, after much shaking and many curse words, get rabbit away from Cache, put Cache in car and dump the rabbit in the trashcan.

Now I just have to ask my husband if the other dead rabbit was Nina's from yesterday.

These dogs make my stomach stronger every day.

Prying dead animals away from my dogs is a common occurrence, but this is the largest that I've dealt with. Mostly it's mice and rats and the occasional rabbit leg. Nasty, but if I couldn't deal with it I'd own a chihuahua.

Kaiser usually brings me LIVE rabbits And then we have to deal with them......

I guess I'm lucky my girls are not good hunters. I haven't had to deal with this yet.

Yeah, I can relate... Lucy and dead rabbit head *gag* I had to lure her into the car and try to get it away.

These dogs sure like to keep us on our toes.

They do make life interesting!

I'm so sorry you had to deal with that! But so happy you shared the story! Love that the woman was scared for her fluffy's life

I can totally see living this one day. We've live in one of the "towns" in Indiana that's pretty much 5 streets between the cornfields, so needless to say there are critters everywhere. We've got rabbits all over and River recently discovered chasing them. Can't wait for the presents to start appearing....

Oh my I'm so sorry you had to go through this. I can just picture this scene playing out though and it is quite funny. I can just imagine the woman screaming to her Fluffy to stay away! All I can say is you are a brave, brave woman to go to the park with 3 Weims.

The dog's name really was Fluffy too.

Nina is either a master hunter or really good at finding dead things. I got more from her in a one week period than I've even gotten from Josie and Cache combined. I always feel a little guilty prying it out of her mouth, she is so proud. I am sure that you all know what I mean.

I'm sorry but I couldn't help but laugh out loud over this one! I could just picture you trying to get Cache to drop the rabbit in the trash can. Priceless.

I have a picture of you holding his ears back, like you would a little girls hair if shes getting sick into the toilet!! Drop it, Cache... These Weims... mine have gotten a few bunnies too... not pleasant, but what's a hunting dog gonna do? I hate telling them drop it too, but jeez-a-loo do they have to want to tote it around like an Academy Award!!
