I'm a bit nervous to share this because Im frightened of the responses I may get.
Monday night I had to rush Grayce to the emergency vet. I was sitting on the couch and she had of course squeezed herself up next to me in a tiny spot between myself and the end of the couch. She was not lying down next to me but sitting up. I was on my lapop tying away and working on something. With my peripheral vision I saw Grayce doing something funny so I turned to look at her. She was sitting up, nose pointed at the ceiling, with her eyes completely rolled back in her head, 3rd eyelids completely covering her eyes (the weird pink eyelid thing), with her head slowly rocking back and forth like she was dazed and confused. I grabbed her with both hands shook her and yelled her name. She kept doing it. I did it again...no real response. I screamed for my boyfriend who was upstairs and he came running. He saw her doing it too..I yelled her name..still 3rd eyelids covering her eyes and head all wobbly. At this point he says "lets go now". I jump up from the couch..and than she actually got up and jumped off the couch. I looked at her and her eyes were still all funny and she was standing there confused..basically like she was blind. I again shook her and yelled her name...this time her eyes went back to normal. I cant really say how long this went on for..bc as you can imagine it truly felt like it was forever..but if I was to guess maybe 1 minute..but who knows how long she was doing it before I noticed. I Started putting shoes on and grabbed her leash..by the time I grabbed her leash she was basically her normal happy self. Jumping excited that we were taking her somewhere. Took her to the ER and she was fine the entire time. Vitals everything came back good.
Told the vet a description of what happened ..they asked a few questions (like was she twitching or spasming at all or did her eyes twitch..answers to both are no). The vet said while it def sounded odd it did not sound like a seizure. She said sometimes when dogs feel sick the 3rd eyelids come out...so maybe they covered her eyes and she couldnt see and was confused?? Sounds like a far reach..but I dont know..it was so weird.
I of course the entire ride to the vet was thinking a neurological problem or brain cancer or something along those horrible lines. The vet did not seem concerned and basically told me chances are I may never know what it was. Im trying my best to believe her that is the case but there is still that awful nagging in the back of my head that what if it really was something neurological...and something that if I ignore it could progress because I wait on it.
Im hoping by posting it on here that maybe..just maybe the description above will jump out at someone as something they have experienced..or heard about and if there is someone who has dealt with it before..that they tell me it is in fact no big deal and nothing to worry.
Im not ready to be told that my not even 5 year old baby has something serious wrong with her. Im hopeful it will never ever happen again. Ive been scared everyday that I come home from work that something will have happened whle no one was home.
