I just recently purchased a treadmill for Stanley (16mos) because it's so darn hot in Texas.

How long should I put him on the treadmill and how fast should be going?

He walked on it for the first time last night for about 20 minutes at 2mph. YAH!

I just want to make sure we don't over do it, but in the same sense he gets enough out if it.

Any suggestions?

Please let me know how thins goes for you. I've been debating it as well. It gets so hot here too, but cold as hell in the winter as well.

Gunther is our star on the treadmill here, but he is usually only on it if its too hot outside or too cold outside. There is nothing really great for replacing our regular walks, but sometimes its a nice thing to have.

If its too hot outside, he does a nice walk for about 15 minutes, in the winter he is on it about 20 minutes, starting at a nice walk, then a little trot and then walking again.

Just have to share a funny little story about our boy Zane... Smile

We tried the treadmill with him..he walked a few minutes, (slow slow speed) and then he sits down on it and rides it to the end...

That was the end of the treadmill for Zane...we haven't tried it with Wyatt...please let us know how it goes!

Shannon, Bill and Wyatt

RIP my sweet boy Zane....

First, I'd like to say sorry to hear about your loss. I spent my lunchtime on Friday reading through the thread. My heart goes out to you.

Isn't it funny how when they don't want to do something or aren't interested they just stop and there's nothing you can do to make them do it. They can be pretty stubborn sometimes.

The treadmill I bought is REALLY REALLY old, so is doesn't move really fast. The fist time I put him on it, then belt wasn't moving, so I turned the speed up. Still no belt moving, so I used my hand to help the belt move along and it kicked in and shot Stanley right out of his collar and off the back end of the treadmill. Afterwards he stood up shook it off and then barked at the treadmill while I was laughing so hard I tears in my eyes.
