I will help transport! Lynn i will call the OH rescue and find out where i can pick her up locally and where they want me to drop her off. Has anyone from OH responded in maybe helping bring her a bit closer to the MD or VA area? I will PM you my work number, can you call me? I just need to know how this usually works since i have never done it before.
Thank you. |

Ok, so i just got off the phone with Linda and the conversation was really broken up bc i could not hear her well. She was on her cell and kept braking up. This is really a very desperate case and they can not find anyone in OH to pick up this baby and transport her.
Now here is the problem i have!!!!!!! The shelter is 6 hours away from me and therefore very hard to do. If i can get smo to drive her a bit closer to me i would have no problem driving to meet somewhere and drop her off to the next person. |

Thank you Lynn,
I spaced out and forgot to post. Yes all the transport spots have been filled and i am so excited she will be spending the night with us after we pick her up. I will be delivering her to the DC weim rescue coordinator on Sunday.
This is my first so wish me luck.
Lynn any tips you might have as far as what to do and not to do with her would be great!
I am planing to tire her and Rocky out before letting them meet, and then i will have the two of them meet outside. I will have Daisy sleep in Rocky`s crate that night next to our bed just to make sure she is OK. I will also spoil he rotten |

I don't think there is anything you could do wrong with her as she is coming from a shelter. Her and Rocky will probably have a ball.
I would definitely let him meet her outside first, but if they both have good temperaments it may not matter.
When I bring a dog home, I can't do that. I have to just pull into my yard, let the new dog out. I usually let them check out the yard for a bit, then let the monsters out one at a time...Jake first, since he is the most protective.
Have fun with it and spoil her to death....she looks so sweet. I am so happy she is getting out of the shelter. |

So here is an update on what happened with Daisy!
She is now with Karen from the DC weim rescue. I picked her up on Saturday and she needs so much love and attention i can`t even begin to explain. We also ended up at the emergency wet clinic on Saturday night because once we came home i noticed that she was peeing ever couple of minutes and she was drinking a LOT of water. No matter how many times i filled up the bowl she would want more and more. The vet put her on antibiotic for a UTI but they are not sure that is what she actually has. They think it might be smth worse bc her brain is not quite registering how much watter she is drinking and she can`t hold he pee. Her lad test came back and showed she is dehydrated, but the more detailed lab results should be in later today. I just know that the word cancer was though out a lot while i was at the vet.....and i could not tell you guys how upset i am and how much i cried for her.
I don`t think Daisy was ever walked on a leach, or had much interaction with humans, or interaction with other dogs, or know what to do with a toy. She is though a well natured dog and she is very loving and starved for attention. She tried to climb her way to my neck for the 24hrs i had her constantly. I think she is extremely smart and if her prognosis comes back as just a UTI and not smth worse, with some work she will be a great dog. I took her to the dog park where she had a great time and ran free, she was so happy. My heart is still broken though from the fact that i had to turn her in yesterday to Karen from the DC rescue. Daisy has been though so much that she just was so upset....i cried for hours and i still can`t get her out of my head. I think she is getting spayed this coming Wednesday so hopefully that will take care of her dominance issues.
Please pray that she will be OK, i love this little girl. |

So I question for those of you that have fostering down to a science:
How do you keep yourself detached from the dog? How do you handle trying not to feel sorry for them? How do you deal with the guilt and remorse that you can not keep them and they have to go through another traumatic even because they are being re-homed? How do you deal with the fact that you feel so sad and depressed after you hand them over?
Sorry guys i am having such a tough day emotionally today, and i had a worse one yesterday.....not trying to be a cry baby, just trying to manage my feelings a bit better. |

I have never fostered, but I would like to in the future. I think that you should take comfort from the fact that they will go to a good home from rescue. Not just any old place. You should also think to yourself if I keep this dog I may not be able to help the next one that comes along. Sadly there are always going to be more who need you.

Sounds like diabetes insipidus. There's a hormone that helps determine how thirsty you are and such. It's there to keep water and electrolytes in balance in the blood by controlling water excretion in the kidneys. Luckily, it's treatable.forgot what the med was for that. Could be something else, too. Dehydration could also explain it readily, along with electrolyte imbalance, too. People will drink and drink just like that, if they don't get the salts along with the water. Just like you said, the brain doesnt register that they are getting water. |
