| Kd loves water!!! We give her water during the day and she doesn't know when to stop!! Does anyone else out there have this going on with their dogs?? She will drink soo much that she ends up throwing it up. We think she is addicted!! We only try to give her enough, but when she asks for it, we give in and she gets more. With the little dog now, she thinks it is a competition, but we make sure she gets her own bowlful. We have tried to stop at a certain time, but she is a big dog, so we want to make sure she gets what she needs. We only give her a small portion at a time, but she keeps drinking until it is gone. Any suggestions about it, or should we get her checked for something?? If anyone knows, you guys would. Thanks in advance for any suggestions.... |

I have to question diabetes. I'm no vet, but I work with people and meds all the time and excessive thirst is a HUGE sign of diabetes.
Its not uncommon for a larger dog to need considerably more water, but from the sounds of it... have KD tested for diabetes, and I would check her kidneys as well.
If this were a human case, I would guess diabetes. But, definitely get her to the vet and have her tested and kidneys checked out as well. |

| I agree, please have her vet checked for kidney failure and diabetes. I know of a Weim that was drinking a hug amount of water, peeing a lot of course and throwing up the water. He was tested very early of age and found that he has kidney failure. He is doing okay now and is on a Renal diet. If caught early enough, this can be kept under control. Good Luck and keep us posted. |

also, too much drinking can be a contributing factor to bloat.
i monitor the water intake, and take the bowl away. lakshmi won't drink and then drink a lot at once. makes me very uncomfortable.
she knows "enough" and will stop. |
