|
|
| We have been told by our trainer (as well as a few random books and mags) to use "time out" as a way to teach a pup not to do something he is insistent on doing. We were told to tie a small leash to a doorknob and close the door leaving enough slack so that he can lay down, also making sure not to put anything in his reach. Jake learned pretty quick that table surfing is unacceptable by using this method and he hasn't done it in a while. My concern is that he is quickly approaching 55 or 60 lbs and sometimes when he is in timeout I am afraid he is going to rip the door out of the wall! I want to continue with the "time out" but I don't want to use his crate because I don't want him to associate it with anything negative. But I also don't want to have my guest bedroom left with no door. Any suggestions? |

| If the dog is crate trained I don't think it matters and he won't start fearing the crate. Otherwise you could tie the leash to something more sturdy or put an eyebolt on the wall and buy a short chain with a snap at the end. This would be like a stake out that field people use except inside the house. |

| Kam gets a time out in his crate quite often!!! He's about 85lbs, so no, we don't tie him to anything!!! And he'll still lay in his crate willingly (when he gets kicked off the furniture!). |

| I've seen it done with the leash being put under the leg of a washing machine. |

if you were in kentucky, you could just tie him to one of the cars on blocks in the front yard. |

Oh, then I will...
You could tie him to the leg of the couch, that's on the front porch (or front lawn, depending on the subdivision )!
