The other day I met a lady on the street with a Labradoodle.
We talked quite a bit and she explained why the previous owners
had surrendered him -- it was a very difficult but responsible
decision on their part -- and the reason they had put him on
Craigslist was that they wanted to choose his next home carefully,
themselves.
I wish we wouldn't pass judgement quite so blithely.

I love this poem. Audi was found on craigslist and the wonderful people at Wonder Weims rescued her. Her previous owners named her "girl". I agree that we don't know all the information behind an owner surrender and some are very responsible with how they find a good place for their dog, which is how is should be. It's the people who carelessly throw their dog away. I saw a weim on petfinder a few months ago that was brought to the pound in the owners trunk and had spent his entire life outside. That's what makes me sick.

I pray you can stay in a position where you can so easily pass judgment on those of us who have had our hearts ripped out by this. And yes, it does haunt us forever.

It is always hard letting an animal go no matter what it is, The animals rescued from a shelter that have been said to be well trained and obedient theses are the animals that were deeply loved and time and effort were given to them and they were rehomed because their owners loved them enough to try and give them a better life no matter how hard it was to let go. I believe an animal is for life however I would not keep an animal if I thought I couldn't give it everything it needed whether that be finacially or time. We all need to be ashamed of owner who have abused their animals physically and mentally and those owners that can't let go. For instance I have just found out my german shepard rebel has a heart condition called DCM he has a maximum of a year left to live but it could be as short as a couple months but I will not watch him suffer, when the time come I will make sure he doesn't, despite how much it will kill me because it is the right thing to do. So please think about it.
