They're here! They were actually born yesterday, but the delivery of them all was spread out over almost the entire day so I didn't hear about it until this morning. Of course my wife got the call this morning, I was at work, had forgotten my cell phone, and spent the day out of the office. So she's known for 6 1/2 hours already and I just found out.
He was originally the only blue male out of 7 pups, but after a short break, mom decided to squeeze out 4 more boys!
So my new little son is somewhere in this massive bundle of blue skin:
Good thing I'm used to waiting. 6 weeks until I can visit, and 8 until he comes home. It'll seem like a year! |

| Too cute! I would check with your Vet to see if there are any Parvo outbreaks in your area. When mine were puppies we were having bad Parvo outbreaks - a new strain at that and my Vet didn't even want me to take them outside my house! They were very adamant about that. I only took them to my daughters or Mothers (carried them in) and did walk them on the block outside on my street (which my Vet really frowned on) so I think it depends on your particular area. When I walked them out in front of my house I walked on the street not on the sidewalk and was paranoid about letting them sniff anything. I kept saying what about socializing them? Her response was it just wasn't worth the risk. |

| I would like you to know we socialized Mason with people and other dogs right from the start, and he has never been aggressive toward any one or other dogs. The only thing is he expects to be acknowledged and won't stop approaching people until he is, he doesn't really jump but he will sit or circle someone until they pet him. I did notice that he is used to being the only dog at home so he is very selfish when it comes to eating, toys, or treats. I didn't see this start until he was about a year and a half old (he'll be 2 on Sept. 7th). So if I were you I would take that into consideration and start training him to eat and play while SHARING without snapping or growling early on. I can say if you are concerned about health risks, Mason was fine and He didn't receive his rabies and shots until he was about 4 months old. But I was very concerned about him so I didn't bring him around dogs that weren't vaccinated or up to date with their shots and heart worm pills. I'm very excited for you to get your new best friend! I hope you have a lot of energy to spare, and a lot of love to give. It takes work but getting my weim was the best thing I could have done, he's a challenge but the best companion anyone could ask for! |

There are 11 in the litter. Growing fast, too! Here they are at 2 weeks.
My boy is in there somewhere in this gang of 5 (the Blues Brothers):

I'm trying to recall our experiences ... I know that for rabies we waited until as close to 6 mos as possible (date by which law requires they be vaccinated here) and we socialized her at every opportunity.
We brought her on errands, mini trips to fields, playgrounds, took her into an elevator (in the event we ever need to be in one), met as many people as we could, went to a polo match like an hour and a half away at 4 months old where there were horses, other dogs, kids, adults all just to get her used to new stuff. We brought her back to the breeders house for a night so she could know it was ok to be away from home if need be. We didn't try a "dog park" area until after she got her second round of shots I believe. I've heard something like you should try to incorporate 100 differnt experiences (literally each new person counts, a new place, etc) in something like 14 days or the first month home to have the foundation to a well socialized dog.
You'll do great - just have fun with him! |

Meredith:
Lowes allows dogs?? How did you find out which stores allow dogs? I have never seen any dogs in Lowes, and I wonder if it's just SOME Lowes, or ALL? Home Depot too?? Now, if I could just find a GROCERY STORE, I would GLADLY SWITCH!!!!

Thanks for all the info posted so far, I appreciate it.
I've got some updated pics today. They're now 3 weeks old.
It's going to be a tough choice! 5 blue boys to pick from:
Man they're cute. I just love the eyes. |

Cuties! Unbelievable eyes - enjoy them while they're so blue! I like the barley background.
Will the breeder be making the choice for you or helping your decision? |

| They are going to help me decide, based on temperament and a few other things we've discussed. I'll be able to make a final decision after seeing them at a 6 week get together. |
