Hi guys, I seem to have a sick pup on my hands and I'm really needing some help. This past Saturday night I went out for a couple of hours so I took benny out so he could make (which went fine) then put him in his kennel. When I got home there was the classic poop bomb that I know a few of you have experienced a time or two; explosive diarrhea all throughout his kennel, the surrounding carpet, the walls, and of course him. Of course he was extremely unhappy so we went outside for a while but he didn't have to go any more. We've been going out more often since the incident but he's still had diarrhea in the house Sunday, and once again today in his kennel. Today wasn't nearly as bad as Saturday so hopefully he's getting better but I'm scared he's not. I did get him the wrong kind of food this bag but its not much different and he's been eating it for a couple of weeks now with no problems so I'm not thinking that's the problem and I haven't noticed him eat anything unusual lately either. His temperament seems fine, he's a bit down right after he makes a mess but he still wants to play of course. Before everyone jumps down my throat I AM going to take him to the vet, I'm just looking for some quick advice. I had read on here about some people feeding their weims an anti-diarrhea medicine? What's the proper dosage on this?
Thanks so much!

Yes, I just recently experienced a bout of upset stomach symtoms with Gracie. The first day that she had diarrhea, the vet told me to just give her water, no food. I gave her an adult dosage of Peptobismol. After a day, I started giving her plain white rice and plain chicken. (If you're in a hurry, just stop at a Chinese food place and pick it up!) This worked really well to settle her stomach. I kept her on chicken and rice until her stool was solid again. Then I mixed plain yogurt with her regular food (a smaller amount than usual) to make sure that it would agree with her. Good luck and I hope your puppy gets better in a hurry!

Make sure it's boiled chicken with the fat cut off- no seasonings. If he won't eat it you can put just a little bit of broth over it- not much though. You want him to eat as bland as possible.

When Zehen gets the poops- which is about once a week- he goes on Hills Science Diet canned i/d- which is a highly digestible food, but it's prescription only. It's not made for long term usage though. Your vet may give you some of that to go home with today.

Ditto .. I heard it's better to use the Immodium AD vs the Pepto but can't recall why at the moment .. Hope the baby gets to feeling better soon ..

ALso get some probiotic, best stuff ever ( eagle pack has one I love and so does nzymes). Also for the first day, water but no food at all, then chicken and rice then a small amount of food and increase slowly also if you feed ad in's with your kiblbe I suggest stripping the ad in's away at first.

Yep...we had the poop wall art yesterday...gross!

Thank you all so much for your input. I'm slowly giving him a little more food. Also he had a dose of Pepto last night to help him sleep and another this morning to help get him through the day in his kennel. I was worried, we went out twice this morning before work and he didn't have to go at all so I figured I'd come home to another mess. Luckily the pepto must have settled his stomach enough to get him through the day. He did have the runs again this afternoon but atleast this time it wasn't strictly water like yesterday. I think we'll stick with a little pepto, a little food, and a lot of water and see how he does.
Thanks again!

When pepto changed their forumula they put an aspirin derivative in it and some dogs are sensitive to it.

For diarrhea, I fast for one meal and then give a bland bland diet, cut out as much of the fat as possible, chicken and rice or even ground beef and rice, but I make sure I drain as much of the fat as possible.

If it's explosive like that for more than day, a vet visit is in order. Lots of things can cause diarrhea, and even the vet usually can only do so much except give things to help the symptons. Usually it is not anything to be too concerned with and will resolve itself.
