OK, I wasn't going to post on this because I thought it would eventually go away but it's been two months now! There is a squirrel that lives in the trees of our house and the two beside us. It's main goal in life is to terrorize Bo, Greta, and Della. Bo and Greta literally flip out when I let them out of their crates at lunch. They head straight to the door, tails waggin, drooling, whining to run outside and sniff out these F'in POS Squirrel. It sits on the lowest branch and barks at them, throws stuff at them, then it will lay on the playset rubbing it's stank all over it when they aren't outside. Greta whines like a friggin banshee when it's out and will not shut up. Normally she will stop barking on command but with thissquirrell I literally have to drag her back in the house. I want this squirrel gone. I don't care if he was there first, he needs to evacuate. This shreaking, squealing, barking, fence climbing is just getting out of control. Those poor dogs!!! Any ideas?!?!?!
I don't own a gun of any sort and I can't seem to hit it with rocks. Torn rotator cuff kind of screws me for that. I tried the hose, he didn't even move, I just want to knock him down and let the dogs take care of it. LOL I know that sounds horrible, but trust me, it's my last resort. I am actually an animal rights activist (Not PETA) and I can't even kill a bug, but this thing has pushed me over the edge. Is there any way to lure it away from the house or something? Otherwise, I am real close to calling my step dad over with his BB gun. |

I'm sorry but LOL!!! That squirrel knows exactly what to do to terrorize your dogs!! And it does it well
Talk to the local animal control unit with the police department or you might be able to contact Fish & Wildlife (if you have one in your area). At the very least, the animal control department can tell you who to talk to!
Good luck! |

| The little bugger is smart. He can jump to about 6 different trees and a bush to make a huge circle in the yard. The dogs just go crazy!!! The little *poop* took a nap on the play fort the other day. He has the most annoying bark to him too. Its so loud you can hear it inside the house! Terrorist Squirrels, I should write a comic! |

I agree with the above, LOL I can't help but laugh as Jack HATES squirrels. When my Grandpa was alive... LOL He used to sit on his deck early in the AM with a slingshot and peg em with acorns.
They would terrorize his bird feeders.
But I would definitely try animal control... LOL If a hose doesn't deter it... not much will.
Its almost like the gopher from Caddy Shack LOL |

Get a live trap, like Havahart brand, avail at Home Depots. Reason why I know so well is because I have had two red squirrels in my yard for about a year. I enjoyed having them around, cuz they are so cute, and kinda unusual here. I actually put sunflower seeds out for them. Well, a few months ago, I found a chewed hole in the trim of my roof, at the eaves. I didn't know what creature did it though, cuz lots of other possibilities, including gray squirrels. Then, it progressed to very loud chewing in the crawl space attic of my home! Often just before dawn. And lots of noise of a creature running around. This went on for a couple months, during which time I covered the hole in the eaves with wire mesh. The darned thing chewed new holes! My house was turning into swiss cheese! Not to mention statistics say that rodents chewing on electric wires are responsible for 7 percent of house fires!
Finally, about a week ago, I went out to check on one of the latest holes, to try to figure out how to block it. And there was a red squirrel halfway out of it! I immediately went out and bought a live trap. At first, I kept the doors wired open, to give the squirrels time to get used to just running right in to get sunflower seeds. Once they were used to it, I set the trap. And caught the two red squirrels the same day. I drove a couple miles away, and released them in an area with tons of oak trees and ripe acorns, and a pond, all on a dirt road with no homes within at least half a mile, so no dogs or cats.
It is now so peaceful, with all that chewing stopped. I still can't get over the fact that I don't wake up at the first hint of daybreak to very loud chewing in the ceiling right over my bed! Not to mention that I have a black walnut tree full of nuts right over the roof right there. Black walnuts come in a thick green husk, that makes them like oversized golfballs. The darned red squirrels would chew off huge clusters of nuts over the roof, and let them fall. Bad enough when they hit the roof, but when they rolled off the roof, and then hit the metal bulkhead door into my basement, it sounded like I was being bombed!
BTW, if you think your Weims go nuts with squirrels out in the yard, try having them in the ceiling, right over the Weims! |

No suggestions, but I hear you. I am surrounded by old oak trees and it is now acorn season and they have all lost their furry little rodent minds. When we first moved in I was charmed, and oh, how cute, and just adorable, and all awwww..... and now I hate them. I have been known to open the door and throw shoes at them or anything else handy when they are digging up my flower boxes. Don't worry I am a terrible aim. I also tossed a pitcher of water on one, my aim was good that day and he wasn't too happy. LOL They are loud, they dig up everything, and what they don't dig up, they eat. Mine must have had a great summer, because WOW! are they big. |

Mine are in the Pecan Trees, and they love to throw the shells at Champ.
they too sit low on the branches and chatter between each other.
At first I couldnt understand why he would be so tired when I would walk
him at night, We have three trees in my back yard, and he runs back and
forth between them during the day. I got irritated too, because I would
be walking in my yard and they would drop shells on me as well. |

We have squirrels also, three regulars. Udo just points but Augie goes nuts. He really wants one. At least one of the furry beasties tosses half eaten Italian Plums at the boys from the tree overhanging their kennel.
I rather enjoy watching the squirrels. The seed block on a bungee chord is a riot as is the bird feeder on a pole with the slinky around the pole. If the Yankee Flipper bird feeder was not so pricey I would have to have one of those too. |

| Your dogs will learn chasing and fast movements are an ineffective way to catch the squirrel. Give them time to learn and they will take care of him themselves. |

i used to have them in my bedroom wall.. one gave birth in there.. rhythmic squealing for hours at 1 AM.. one got in my closet.. drove my cats nuts.. i didn't have hooch, yet. had to have professional traps set up to block the holes in the roof... one got a limp from the escape.. and he came right over to me so i can see it.. boogers.
set a trap, and send them to the woods. |
