Does anyone here feed their weimy RC?
I wanted to switch Jaeger over to a better quality kibble and narrowed it down to a few brands. RC offered the most helpful response to my enquiry (from a vet tech manager, not just any old customer service rep) and they are sending us out some brochures and a sample pack of Maxi Junior.
It's pricey but if it means he eats less and poops less then it's better for us! |

| both of my dogs (one weim and one not) are on rc produced food - veterinary diets. weim is on the medi-cal adolescent formula (basically a large breed puppy food) and my other dog is on the rc low fat lf 20 because he does not process fat properly because of his age. both have great coats and nails. also we don't have the gas problem some people have mentioned and stools are firm. it is more costly but i seem to be feeding less for the same growth and body condition. i'm not sure if you have the same diets available to you but the canadian products are here http://www.medi-cal.ca/diets/canine_en.php |

its a tough one considering you live in australia, personally I wouldnt feed royal canin, its overpriced with a lot of unnecessary additives like glutens and beet pulp plus a bunch of synthetic additives that need closer evaluation since they can put strain on dogs liver, like copper, zinc, etc.
I would probably go with raw or lightly cooked meat/organs/bones supplemented with necessary probiotics, fish oil etc.
I think someone else can explain it to you better, i'm not a raw expert. here are some links to help though

| Was just about to put him over to Royal Canin until I saw that the first ingredient on the Maxi Junior wasn't dehydrated poultry meal (it is on Maxi Babydog) but grain of some sort.. so we've put him on Proplan instead.. seems to be doing well on it |

we've switched him over to proplan over the last few days.. gradually increasing the amount
today he had 2 cups of Proplan in the bottom of his bowl with 1 cup of Bonnie on top..
silly food snob has eaten his way around the Bonnie!!!
We have maybe 3-4 servings left of Bonnie but I think we will just toss it |

I know your pain...Elsa went through 3 different kinds, until we finally settled on Timberwolf Organics. She would always get sick with anything that had corn/grains in it. It's a bit on the pricey side, but well worth it when she's not getting up each morning with gas or puking at 2am on the carpet.
She's currently on: Ocean Blue Canid Formula - Grain Free
Ingredients:
Low Ash White Fish Meal, Salmon, Potatoes, Sardine/Mackerel/Anchovy/Tuna Oils, Kelp, Alfalfa Leaf, Potassium Chloride, Carrot, Watercress, Spinach, Celery, Parsley, Fennel Seed, Blueberries, Cranberries, Pears, Figs, Thyme, Anise Seed, Ground Cinnamon Bark, Fenugreek, Garlic Pieces, Sunflower Seeds, Sesame Seeds, Apples, Taurine, Spirulina, Choline Chloride, Lecithin, Probiotics: (Lactobacillus Acidophilus, Lactobacillus Casei, Lactobacillus Lactis, Bacillus Bifidum, Streptococcus Diacetilactis, Bacillus Subtillus), Taurine, Mixed Tocopherols (a source of vitamin E), Lysine, Zinc Proteinate, Iron Proteinate, Manganese Proteinate, Thiamine, Methionine, Carnitine, Niacin, Vitamin A Supplement, Calcium Pantothenate, Riboflavin Supplement, Vitamin B12 Supplement, Iodine Proteinate, Vitamin D3 Supplement, Biotin, Folic Acid, Pyridoxine (a source of vitamin B6), Copper Proteinate, Selenium Proteinate, Cobalt Proteinate, Papain, Yucca Schidigera Extract. |
