Who else spends more on their dogs than they do on themselves? Rolling Eyes Laughing

Anyway, here's a thread for all purchases you make for your spoilt weims (and other furkids).

I spent 125.00 on toys for Christmas from petedge, and 41 dollars on bully sticks. I spend about 70 per week on their raw food and 75 - 100 every few weeks for their kibble and Jake's grain free canned food.

When I go food shopping, John swears I spend way more on them. He may be right.

What's funny about this is that we could all just leave the trash out for them to get into and they would be perfectly happy Laughing

Wow, I feel like a bad mom having only spent enough at petedge to get out of the minimum order charge, which I think is $60 Confused The really sad part is that I gave most of that order away. My dogs don't kill toys, I still had new toys with tags from last Christmas that were in their "toy chest". My friend has 4 labs, and I exchange presents with them Laughing Some of those toys didn't live for 15 seconds in her house. Then I gave a bag full of toys to a friend who bought one of Luna's puppys from my breeder.

Moral of the story, I throw out more toys from wear & tear from the washing machine & weather than weim torture. But I did spend $80 on food this morning.

Do most of you have weims that kill toys??

Jaeger kills his stuffed toys by:
1. de-stuffing them and trying to eat the stuffing which we promotly remove leaving just the outside shell for him to play with
2. chewing/suckling on the remainder so much that it stinks and we can no longer deal with having a stinky wet toy brought to us to play tug/fetch/suckle with

he's killed two stuffed ducks, one pig hide bone and is now working on a stuffed pheasant (has been beheaded and de-stuffed.. i give it another 2 weeks before it has to be tossed)

Frannie and Millie destroy stuffed toys - they play tug of war until the fabric is shredded and then try to eat the stuffing.

Frannie's other fascination is squeaky toys - she loves to break the squeakers and then wonders why they don't squeak anymore.

Millie is teething so she enjoys anything she can get in her mouth. We can always tell when she is losing another tooth because the toy she has in her mouth gets bloody. Poor baby.

Libby is so laid back she really doesn't get into toys much. I honestly don't think she had many/any as a pup and she doesn't know what to do with them. That's just sad!

After the last toy I bought was destroyed that night, Marley has been restricted to the old toys. One is a squeaky ball that has a broken squeaker (thank god) and the other is a rubber-like newspaper. She's had both since we got her. I'm not spending any more on stuffed toys for her to annihilate. There is also a rope toy that's going downhill fast and some tennis balls. It's enough to keep her happy. She doesn't know any better.

I too have given up on the stuffed toys. Although Duke loves them. They're lucky to last a day. We now look for the strongest toys we can find. He loves tennis balls but drives me nuts pulling all the fuzz off and depositing it all over the house (if he doesn't swallow it).

Mine do that, I just threw away Daisy's dragon (the kids toy from the shrek movie), because the shell was in 800 pieces (it was cute when it was a dragon head with a limp body)

Same here re: stuffed toys. However, my dad got her the duck again for Christmas, she snatched it right out of the box when i opened it. Already has 2 or 3 holes in it, i will trash it soon. My s.daughter got her a little stuffed poodle that lost both it's ears by Dec. 26.

Long post - I got really detailed here, I had been wondering myself what it really costs us ...I estimate about $150-175 per month per dog, if there is no major vet catastrophe...& there's been several this year! If $$ = love, we love these dogs. Laughing Alot. Hope the kids don't read this.Laughing

Food: $18-organic chicken backs, $9-yogurt, $10-regular ground beef, molasses, eggs, ground flax $2-tin salmon(10 days feeding 2 dogs = about $150/month including snacks & supplements etc.) $20-fish oil (l3 -4 months) $11-probiotics (lasts 2 months) $20-supplements (lasts 6 months)$20-raw organic bison marrow bones, $20-bully sticks (month supply of snacks) Cooper was on prescription food that cost about $100 for every 20 days!!!! (And still had soupy poop!)Sad

Drugs:$42-30 Stilbestrol (6 months at least) $10-cornsilk

Vet:We had a really bad year - Indy came to us quite sick...$1495-Indy since May 25 (includes initial check up, spay, post-op infection, vaccination, HW meds, 2 urinary tract infections, urine & blood tests, overnight hosp stay from infection
$607-Cooper - ear & paw infection, HW meds, regular check up

Daycare: About $120 per month on doggie daycare for dogs.

Toys:Did not keep track of this, but probably about $20 a month. (More if my husband is not reading this.) I have a good line on really cheap AKC toys ($2.88 for large stuffed & $8 for large kongs.)

The funny thing is we don't have to spend any money, and they would be happy just tearing up the stuff we already have.

I have to say Marley is a cheap dog. She eats Iams and never complains. Since her UTI, we have had no health problems. The only thing I do shell out for is her obedience, but it's to the point that I can become a member and only pay $80 a year.

The cat costs $10 a month. Pink grin
