Jack LOVES to take naps. He mopes around during the day and will go outside and run for a bit, but it isn't until I come home at night that he decides playtime is on.

He probably sleeps about 4 or 5 hours during the day? Then at night he's hell on wheels because Mommy and the kids are home and the party is on!

Lincoln is a couch potato...if nothing is going on around the house, he can sleep for a good 6-8 hours during the day. Then we could go on a one hour off-leash hike in the woods, and he'll come home ready for some serious napping!

We're still dog-sitting Lincoln's dad, Shooter and he doesn't sleep quite as much as Lincoln (although still more than I thought) so he's been keeping Lincoln awake more than usual.

Lincoln sounds a lot like Calvin...he too can sleep a good 8 hours all day if we let him. I know weims are supposed to be energetic, but I gotta say, Calvin is the biggest couch potato EVER. Not that I'm complaining Smile

sounds like our pups are around the same age? 5-months or so?

I'm expecting a huge ramp-up in energy at some point, but for now, I'm enjoying my couch potato!!

Yoko is just about 5 months too... i think she is slowly showing her needs for more exercise. so far though its just mornings and nights. she is a total sleepyhead during the day.

in the morning she barely lets me get my clothes on she's so excited to go for a walk. seriously a few times i have struggled to get my underwear on cause she starts ripping at them trying to get my attention to go for a walk. doesn't she realize that i need to put the ON otherwise we ain't goin' nowhere?!!

i have really noticed in the last week that her behaviour takes a turn for the worse when she needs exercise. its a definite cue that she needs a walk, RIGHT NOW or she'll start doing things to get attention. lets see, there's the underwear thing... also jumping up on me, grabbing the dirty or clean laundry and chewing it, running into the bathroom and taking bites out of the roll of toilet paper, sticking her nose into the garbage in the bathroom and fishing out whatever she can... she only does this when she's 'bored'. i guess its all part of us learning her needs. so far, knock wood, nothing too important has been destroyed!!! (did you see that thread with all the pictures of stuff weims have destroyed?!?! omg!!!)

Yes, Calvin is just over 5 months. Occasionally he'll be Mr. Zoomy, but generally we have a very calm Weim. Let's see how long that lasts! He has a definite routine right now, though - lazy in the morning, awake but calm in the early afternoon, then pretty active from about 5 to 8 or so. Then he's dead to the world once more.

Once Gracie gets her exercise for the day, she is quite a sleepy-head! She definitely seems to sleep most of the time if she is in her crate. I can tell by her slowness to come out of the crate and all the stretching she does. Even when I am home though, Gracie will curl up on one of her dog beds, the bath mat, the landing of the stairs, the kitchen floor...she will make herself comfy anywhere for a good nap.

Gracie also sleeps throughout the night in her dog bed that is beside my bed. Thank goodness...I sometimes even wake her up!!!

First, how old is she?

Second, this is related to temperament and has a genetic component.

Third, is you take her out and play every time she does zoomies around the house, she is training you. When you comply with her "demands," she wins.

Dogs come wired with a certain temperament--and hopefully an "off switch". But they also can be taught to have quiet time and to settle, and not all weims are equipped with an "off switch". I'd say you need to work on this some, b/c three hours is an insane amount of exercise! Very Happy

Work on a "go to your bed" command, a "settle" command, and do some long down stays every day. I'd also build in about 15 minutes of "work" time each day--not necessarily all at the same time. Mental exercise sometimes wears them out faster. These dogs truly will run your lives if you let them!

That said, my dogs sleep probably 22+ hours a day, eat, and then get run hard off leash for about 30 minutes daily. Even my puppy sticks to this schedule--she's just a bit busier when she's not asleep. On top of that, each one gets individual training attention on most days where I work with them on various things for 10-15 minutes each. But days that I work 12 hours, come home and sleep, then go back to work I expect them to get up, eat, and go back to bed sometimes. They do--they've learned what putting on scrubs means!

Bailey would stay awake for 36 hrs if he could!!! He is so hyper and wild. He gets lots of activity and exercise with my Mom while I work. He is never left alone for more than 4 hrs or so.

Misty and Bailey love to nap. When I clean the house they follow me all around and after an hour or so Misty looks at me like will you please sit so I can sleep.
