he gets a lot of supplemental human food.. fruit, veggies, boiled chicken, yogurt, etc.. on a daily basis.. along with the kibble. ideally i'd like to continue feeding him this way.. we are about 90% vegetarian around here, as well.. so a raw diet is not all that appealing to me, personally.. but ultimately i will do anything for my boy.. hoping the wellness core food works out as a good base for all of his other goodies to float around with in his bowl..

It is made here in Northern Indiana, I have never heard of anyone that has had any issues with it. There are some coupons on their website for a buck off! |
on the dog food analysis site i use, eagle pack is a 4 star food.. like cali. natural.. wellness core is a 6 star food. canidae i believe was a 5..
i don't care about the ratings, really.. i just want what ever works best for hooch.
so so so mad at canidae, he was doing so well..

| Just started the switch from Canidae to Wellness Core about two weeks ago. After gradually decreasing from Canidae, we are finally starting just the Core tomorrow. So far, not really impressed - she has more gas and softer poops. I am thinking it may just take her a little longer to adjust. I am going to wait and see what happens this week now that she is only on the core. |

yeah, veggie may be great for you, but biology still plays a role here, so it may not be great for him. suppose a gerbil would be better suited to a veggie diet |

silly! i didn't say hooch was going to follow a veggie diet at all.. i'd just like to not feed him raw meat at this stage of the game.. |

| WE used to use Eagle Pack and I am considering going back to it. Canidae we used to get at a local feed store and the price went up by like 15 dollars and sometimes Wrigley doesn't eat. We had no problems with the Eagle pack I just think that he got sick of it. May switching back to it he will eat again. |

When we rescued Darby, she was being fed 8 cups of Eagle pack per day!!!!!! That's INSANE! And she was far from overweight. We switched her to Canidae and I noticed she was gassy and had eye boogs. She's been on Wellness CORE ocean variety and seems to be doing well. No gas, no boogs AND she's only being fed about 3 cups per day. NICE ! She is getting raw chicken wings about 3times per week in place of her evening kibble. |

| I am going to have to switch off Canidae as well since it is not agreeing with my weim. I am thinking of California Natural, but was wondering if those using it had any thoughts on not being able to soak it due to the citric acid content. Is it better to use a food that can be soaked? I have always soaked Canidae. (the old formula barely expanded, but not the case with the new) |

well.. mister hooch macalli has had a nice reduction in gas.. back to normal. yay!!!
decrease in eye boogs, breath improving.. thank goodness, the way that boy can kiss.. yay!!!
coat looks good.. yay!!!
but still have 80% mushy poo.. eww.. and his tissue around his eyes seem pinker than normal.. hmmm.
it takes hooch's belly awhile to readjust.. i am giving him a 50/50 split of wellness super 5 mix and wellness core.. along with his regular additions to his bowl.. i'm gonna keep up this blend for at least 2 weeks before i decide to start over..
how's everyone else doing? |

| Still having soft poops on a full diet of Wellness Core after about a week and a half. But less eye goobers right now, still a great coat and everything else seems great. Maybe I should try the Super 5 50/50 mix. I was thinking about trying that one anyway. |

i thought hooch would "do" best with a little bit of grain in his diet.. that's why i added the super 5 mix..
if you go for it, let me know how it works for you.. the change in hooch took about a week, but i saw immediate improvement with the super 5 mixed in.. |

we are on day 3 of the switch from canidae to cali natural.
a bit soft in the poops, but otherwise, no real issues that i have seen.
planning to make this a 5 day switch - we are at 50/50 right now.
riley has had eye goop issues and itchy butt syndrome on and off while on canidae, so i hope this clears her up.
heidi has gone straight to 100% cali natural... her poor belly is probably in shock - no idea what she was on before... liquid poops so far, but hopefully that will change over the next day or so.
oh, and i too cant seem to stomach raw. i like meat, and could feed my dogs cooked meat, but raw just makes me squeamish... and not much does that. |

We're almost done with the first bag of Nutri Source Chicken & Rice Formula after making the switch from Canadie. Linkin's coat definitely isn't as shiny and he seems to be kind of itchy. Always biting at himself. He also has mushy poo and lots of TOXIC gas!
We will be trying something else. Ugh!!! I really wish Canadie wouldn't have changed. It was the perfect food for him. |
