|

My girl cut her heel. You know the little part up above the foot in the back of the foot before her knee. (that part that sticks out) It's not deep but I can't get it to stop bleeding. There is no way to even do stitches but I don't think she would need them, it doesn't appear to be deep or a puncture. Any suggestions on how to stop? Had this same problem with her ear when she was a pup and her and our other dog got too playful and he bit her ear. Man that bled for ever. I ended up putting a band aid on it but I know that won't stay for long.
Any Suggestions?

| Can you hold ice on it for a while (I know I am LOL for even suggesting she'd sit still). How about that powder you put on when the quick gets cut? |

Keep her foot elevated by rubbing her belly or smth so she can turn on her back with her feet up. Generally if a wound is elevated above the heart level then the bleeding should stop.
How much blood are we talking about? If it is a tremendous amount of blood then i would take her to see the vet ASAP to make sure she did not puncture some major vain or artery, otherwise just give it some time and make sure she does not run around. As the muscles contrast, blood flows to her limps and that makes the bleeding worse, so sitting still for a while would be helpful. |

Hi guys, thanks so much for the quick response. It's almost like she shaved that little part off so there is no puncture and it's not deep. This happened last night and I was able to get it to stop bleeding by holding pressure on it but during the night she either licked it or bumped it and it started up again. I have NO idea how she did this. I ended up putting a huge band aid on it with triple anti biotic ointment. It's not a HUGE amount of blood. Not sure if any of you have ever had your Weim's cut their ear but if so you know what' I'm talking about.

| I found out it's called the Capus, which is essentially her wrist. |

Hey Shannon, thanks for asking. Well, the bandaid stayed on all day but when i took it off the cut started bleeding again and there was blood on the bandaid itself. I bought some stop bleed on the way home from petsmart and put that on and another bandaid.
I have considered taking her to the vet but there is really nothing they can do. It's like she skimmed off the skin from the capus. There is nothing to stitch or staple.
Any other suggestions?

| I'd probably smear some triple anti biotic on a 3X3 guaze pad and wrap it with cling. The pressure from the cling should help stop the bleeding and wrapping it all the way around the paw will make sure it stays covered and keep the dirt out. |

I had a dog do this once, but it didn't bleed much at all.
You may want to consider the possibility of a bleeding disorder if she's bleeding that much. Von willebrand's isn't that common, but does happen. |

| Doctors put basically super glue on some human cuts...one doc told Michael ( who gets cuts on nuckles all the time) to just save his monye going in to see them and put on his own regulalr super glue. I would research more before doing though. |

| When it comes to the super glue it burns when it's put on initially. I have used it on my own cuts to avoid a run to the hospital. It works but it really burns until it dries. They do sell 'liquid skin' at Walmart which is basically the same thing but I think it is less burning. I never used it though. |

How's this cut going? I know I'm probably a little bit late in replying but a really GREAT product to get that will stay on really well is Coban self adhesive tape. Just put some absorbant whatever underneath and grab the coban and wind around. The pressure from the tape would be enough for it to stop and hopefully no doggie tongues to get at the sore and make it weep.
I bought some for Ruby with smily faces on it
This is good to have around the house in your first aid kit as well.. |

Thanks all, the cut seems to be doing well. I took off the bandaid last night and cleaned it up and let it air out for a bit. I then put triple antibiotic ointment on it and put a band aid back on it. She seems to be doing fine and it does not seem to bother her at all.

As versatilek9s mentioned, if your dog bleeds like that you may want to rule out von willebrands. Weims are a breed known to have the disorder.
That and I think superglue works great. Everyone should have it in their medical kits. |
