| Me and the wife are toying with the idea of moving to Chicago (suburb) or New York City (Connecticut). We love the both cities but wonder how weim friendly each city is. Any info would be great. |

can tell you there are plenty of dog-friendly places in NYC, but remember the apts can be SMALL and if you're babies are energetic you will NEED to make sure they get LOTS of walkies/time at the park frolicing!
We're in NJ about 15 minutes from NYC... |

I got my weim while living in a suburb (kind of) of Chicago. I lived in a town called Ingleside...I was @ 45 min from Chicago...near Buffalo Grove and Gurnee (where Six Flags is).
I think it depends where you live. I personally hated Chicago and Illinois..LOL..lived there for 3 years and moved back to NJ a year ago....but I have to say I had the BEST dog park EVER right around the corner from where I lived. It was HUGE, had multiple small fenced in training area, open fields, bathrooms, acres of trailes and all completely fenced in. Than there were several others within driving distance as well..some that had swimming areas as well. I did hear a rumor that there is a beach in Chicago for dogs.
I lived in Lake County and we had the Lake County Forest Preserve...that had 4 "dog exercise area" (aka dog parks).

I'm sure either city would be a great choice. I live in Westchester County, a suburb of NYC, and I can tell you that dog parks are popping up all over the place...lots of places for dogs to run and play. There is a dog park about 5 minutes from me that has been called "one of the top 10 dog parks in the country." Plenty of places to hike with dogs as well!
Good luck with your decision! |

LOL I live in the chicago land area... Gurnee as a matter of fact! LOL I HATE six flags!!!! (traffic is a nightmare in the summer)
We have a lot of great dog parks due to the forest preserves, living directly in the city of chicago, ehh I wouldn't consider it to be "weim friendly" The suburbs are priced in a more affordable range (most of chicago is now million dollar condos), we have a double sized lot that works well for Jack, and as mentioned - a lot of dog parks.
But thats if your willing to go suburban. In the city itself, I'm not sure if they allow dogs in millenium park and some of the others around there... but there really isn't much "romping room" |

Kel, what town do you live in?? Are you near Hoboken or Jersey City? John's been working up there forever. |

| I don't blame you. John and I were both born and raised in Philadelphia, PA. I couldn't wait to move out of the city. Now we live in the burbs about 40 - 45 minutes away. |

I live in CT but up around Hartford. I grew up in FFld county and while I didn't have my weimy when I lived there, I have quite a few friends down there with dogs and there are a fair amount of places to let them run and we go down quite often. Rosie loves going out onto Candlewood Lake which is one of the largest manmade lakes taking up 5 towns!
What parts of CT are you looking at? There are plenty of great choices you can live in - I love this state. Depending on if you're commuting to Manhatten, the closest commute to NYC would be Greenwich, but a home with any decent amount of land is quite expensive there. I lived in Redding, up around there are Easton, Weston, Wilton, all wonderful areas with lots of woods for some great hiking. Ridgefield has a nice dogpark I hear (have not been) and Rosie has been to the New Canaan dogpark (but without me!) You might choose to look around the shoreline too (Stamford, Darien, Westport, etc)
If you have any specific questions PM I'd be happy to answer them.
Also, there is a good website that lists CT dogparks....

| simis - how funny to read your post! I grew up around Hartford (Simsbury) and now my parents and my inlaws live in Redding and Norwalk, respectively. Great dog-walking around Westport, the Sherwood Island area. Redding has a LOT of conservation area and trails that would be great for the dog. |

I attended a Nursing Conference in Chicago this year. It was my first visit and I really enjoyed it. I took this picture at Downtown Dog restaurant near our hotel.
