|
|
| So my vet said he would recommend switching my dog from Canidae to Pro plan because he is not doing well on the canidae. My question is do you feed your weims the large breed formula or does it really matter? Do the ingredients really help the joints or is it to just sell more food to people with big dogs? |

| the large breed would be fine, or maintenance. If really active, might want to try out performance. |

| They actually have one bag that has a Weim on the front, I think it is the active breed one. |

| Our breeder originally suggested the Adult Turkey & Barley Formula but it didn't agree with Marvin's stomach. |

I mix Large breed and Performance.
We walk at least 5 miles a day, sometimes more. When we walked less I just used large breed. I tried the others but he lost weight on them. |

Slade is on Pro Plan Large Breed Puppy, and will go on to Large Breed Adult as long as he keeps doing well on it.
If I ever change foods, I will be going with Orijen. |

Have you seen the ProPlan Selects? Here is the lamb formula if you wanted to try and stay with that for now. I don't know if it's available all over or only in certain areas.

Unfortunately, Mayu did not do well on the ProPlan foods that we tried for her. She loved it -- but it did not love her. She became very stinky and loose stools.
She does well on Kirkland, though - which I think may have a lamb type. If you have a CostCo near you, you may want to check out the ingredients. We may be going this weekend and I will try and remember to look. |

We had the same problem with the Proplan so we switched to the Kirkland but the Chicken and Rice and no more gas. |

we are on proplan large breed puppy (it does have a weim on the bag!). So far so good except that Yoko has crystals in her urine. We are supplementing with vitamin c for one week. If that doesn't help then we'll need to switch foods.
I think the main dif is that large breed has glucosamine in it. Otherwise the same as regular proplan. |

So I checked the amount of Glucosamine in each food. Here is the breakdown.
Lamb and Rice-400ppm(not sure what ppm stands for)
Large Breed-500ppm
Large Breed Lamb and Oats Proplan Select-650ppm
For those that know what is the difference and is 400 compared to 500 that big of a deal. I am not sure if the Select is available at my local Petsmart. If it is I am probably going with that.
I would like to stay with lamb because he did well on lamb and rice before and canidae has chicken and he did not do so well. Large Breed is chicken and rice. Are chicken and lamb that much different for dogs or are the interchangeable.

We use the Pro plan Lrg breed adult for our adult weims and the Senior for our old boy. they have done fantastic on these for years. Our puppies have ben on the lrg breed puppy and I hear they are doing well on it too. I like to stay with chickn and rice because it is very bland. Lamb & rice is higher in calories and they can put on weight more easily. if your weim has allergies I would recommend a protein surce like turkey or lamb but if they are fine chick & rice is the way to go. We had ours ont eh regular adult and did well on it too. but the lrg bred dos have glucosamine in it that helps a little. Our old boy is doing somcuh better since we switched to the senior now that he is 8 years.
Before Proplan we tried all the differnt foods from veterinary brands to eukamuba to pedigree and have kept going back to teh proplana s they seem to do real well with coat, no gas and nice poops and over all jsut in good condition so I can't se us changing now
You may have to try several foods before you find one that works well for your weim! |

Zeik does really good on Pro Plan puppy for large breeds, I have tried several high dollar foods and he has done best on Pro Plan. That's a big savings for me...
Jasmines Foster mom says that raw is as cheap as a high quality kibble diet. I have been considering 50% Pro Plan 50% Raw for Zeik.
Here may be an interesting read for everyone...

| We started Lincoln off on ProPlan Large Breed, but then he started showing signs of pano, so we've switched him to the regular ProPlan adult (not large breed). He's done very well on ProPlan so far. |

| Alright so we made the switch. I went with ProPlan selects Lamb and Oats large breed. Just started the transition tonight so we will see how he does. Wish us luck. |
