Ok, so I can post this now as a warning to not be a dumb@ss like I was earlier....
I left a disinfectant towelette on the floor with the door closed to let it sit on the tile to clean up catpoop that missed the box - we had someone over who didn't know any better and inadvertantly left the door open. Rosie's weakness is any paper towel, napkin, tissue, etc. so of course this was an open invitation. Shortly thereafter, I noticed a chewed up towel in the guest room, and quickly put two and two together. I called the vet and poison control immediately. I induced vomiting just in the event she swallowed any of the towelette. They say that these can be toxic to pets - so PLEASE, be careful! Learn from my mistake, and be very careful with cleaners/disinfectant towelettes. Fortunately, everyone seems to be OK - my vet called every 3 hours to make sure she was ok |

Hope Rosie is ok.
Gunther too is a huge fan of tissues, paper towels, etc... I was just wiping a mess on the floor with those wipes earlier and Gunther was staring me down. Luckily our garbage is hidden in our island and he hasn't mastered opening up the cabinet yet. |

Thank you so much for the warning!
Could you please tell me how to induce vomiting?
I heard that putting peroxide on a cotton ball and have the dog swallow it will induce vomiting.Does that sounds right? |

Methods to Induce Vomiting
Hydrogen Peroxide
Three percent hydrogen peroxide is quite effective in making dogs and cats vomit. You must be sure to use three percent peroxide and not hair coloring strength peroxide. Despite the label indicating that hydrogen peroxide is toxic, it is safe to give to dogs for this purpose. It is considered toxic since it induces vomiting and therefore does not stay in the body.
The appropriate dose of hydrogen peroxide is one teaspoon per 10 pounds of body weight. If you have an oral syringe, one teaspoon equals 5 cc or 5 ml. Once given, walk your dog around or gently shake the stomach area to mix the peroxide with the stomach contents. Vomiting should occur within 15 to 20 minutes. If no vomiting occurs, you can safely repeat the three percent hydrogen peroxide once. If it is still not effective, your dog may need to be seen by a veterinarian for stronger vomiting medication.
Once the hydrogen peroxide is given, it is important to watch your pet so that he does not re-ingest the substance. If there is concern about toxicity, collect and take a sample of the vomitus to your veterinarian. |

| We use disinfectant wipes at the hospital. Those are nasty things. I wouldnt use them at home at all. We are told to glove up when using them! If I fail to do that, I get dry skin, itches and sometimes cracking skin shortly thereafter. We suspect that they are the culprit in making the plastic on some of our medical devices brittle, too. Supposedly, they remove the plasticizers from the plastic. |

I didn't have a syringe handy to squirt it back there and in my panic I just filled up a shot glass (one ounce) with hydrogen peroxide....after checking that amount with the vet of course. Opened her mouth and poured it back there - I'd doubt I'd ever have any luck trying to get her to eat something soaked with it.
Word of warning if you do have to do this - get outside and stay out there with them until you are sure they are done retching!!! I felt awful that I had to do that to her, but it was better to be safe than sorry. |
