| so Icarus had his xrays on his elbow. The vet tells me he honestly doesn't see anything. I'm starting to think about switching vets because I took the xrays home and we can clearly see there chips of bone off the end of his elbow. I called to make an appointment with a bone specialist and will bring them the xrays. It just stinks because they're really busy and couldn't get an appointment til the 11th. I feel bad, he's a puppy and needs to be a puppy but we gotta keep him on lock down so he doesn't injure it further. Our vet said to give him an 81mg aspirin once a day til we get him to the specialist. What do you guys recommend for pain relief that may work better then aspirin. |

Sorry to hear about the elbow.
I would be careful giving pain meds to a young dog. Reason being that the pain may actually help lower his activity level, I know it sounds harsh, but sometimes in dogs if you take away the pain during an injury they can do further damage.
Pain meds are situational, but just a caution until you get an actual diagnosis. Also, if the specialist were to want to take him to surgery you would have to wait several days for the aspirin to clear his blood, to avoid surgical complications.
You could try an ice pack to help alleviate the pain? |

Oh poor Icarus! Yes being in the vet field it is sometime worse to give them soemthing for pain especially a young puppy. if they feel a little disconfort they will take it easy. Also when you do go for your referral to the ortho if they do want to do surgery than he must be off all meds or they will hav to wait until it's out of his system which could be a while. I would just hold off it's only a few more days. The ortho can prescribe something if he is that painful.
Please keep us updated!! |
