| okay, so since Hunter was a puppy, we've had him kennel trained, and he always sleeps in his kennel and goes in there when nobodys home. does that put me at a disadvantage to be able to tell when somthings wrong with him at night? I'm especially worried he might bloat, and won't whine or anything like that, and he'll just sit in there silent the whole time and we won't be able to react because we won't even know its happening. I mean normally with Hunter, if he gets remotely hurt, he yipes, but you never know. theres also a number of other things Im afraid I won't be able to respond to. is that situation likely in a kennel or will he probably make some noise that he wants out if he's having an emergency such as bloat? |

| If he is having bloat he'd be crying or making some noise. I wouldn't worry about keeping him in the kennel. |

ok, it just worried me last night, because I had to go to the bathroom at around midnight, and I heard him licking himself VERY loudly. I let him out, and he seemed fine, like he didnt seem to be in any pain or anything, matter of fact, he went right for his ball and acted like it was play time, and it just made me think "well if somthing DOES happen to him, I might not know" but you are probably right. |

you know what I think it must be for my dog is, he always tries to eat bees and flies, and one of them must have gotten him on the leg, because I noticed he was kinda bitting as he licked his leg last night.
still, if he starts licking himself at night, I listen to him VERY carefully for anything that remotely suggests he's bloating. problem is, I'm not going to wake up my dad unless I have enough evidence that somthing is truly wrong, if I could drive it would be one thing, but Im 17 and have yet to get my liscense, or even permit for that matter ( I know its sad). especially with bloat, it's only safe to assume it WILL happen one of these days, question is, when? |

I know someone whose dog bloated overnight in his kennel. She found him dead in the morning.
When mine bloated, she didn't make a sound. When my other one torsioned, she didn't make a sound. When my oldie had a stroke, she didn't make a sound. I woke when she fell against the wardrobe, that sound woke me up. When my last dog had a stroke or a fit, I don't know which, I was sleeping right beside her but didn't wake quick enough to see what happened although I was awake quick enough to help her get outside and be there when she had a major fit half an hour later.
It sounds as if your boy is a youngster, so he's less likely to be ill and need help overnight, but it can happen. |
