| Those pics are just too cute. Derek hasn't sucked on anything. I don't know if I should be sad or glad about that. |

Trudi sucks on ALL her babies. One of her favorite toys is a stuffed hot dog. She has gone through 4 of them in the last 2 years so everytime we see them at the store, we buy all they have for spares! Our friends weim, Maggie, used to suckle her Dallas Cowboys blanket. I was astonished when I saw her do this. I have had dogs all my life but had never seen a grown dog suckle like the weims do. Trudi gets into it so much sometimes that her eyes roll back in her head. |

My two girls remind me of a little kid, sucking their thumb, when they do it. They especially do it after they have been stressed out in any way. Like when I come home, and they are so happy I am back. First, they go crazy, wiggling and wagging and barking, to greet me back. Then, after about 5 minutes, they both get their stuffed animals and suck for a while I notice that during whatever is stressing them, they don't suck. But after it is over, they do. It seems to be their way to comfort themselves, and de-stress. From the looks on their faces, it almost seems to be like a drug to them!
Gracie often gets up in the morning before I do, and jumps off my waterbed to go find her "Cliffie" (a floppy Clifford the Big Red Dog). Which she promptly drags back up on my bed, on top of my legs, and sucks for a while.
I read once at another Weim group that this sucking behavior seems to all trace back to one single Weim that was a champion long ago, and is behind most of the Weims today. It sure seems to be in their genes! |

Here's some more pics of my Gracie sucking. The red thing is her floppy Cliffie, or Clifford the Big Red Dog. Gracie had just had major surgery on her knee when these pics were taken. She had bone cut, then plated and screwed back together. So she really needed to comfort herself with her sucking toys then! My poor baby! That first pic was taken the day after her surgery. The others were taken about a week later.
