Moe and Grace were recently very excited that they were going to have a new human baby brother! They just couldn't wait to shower him with love and kisses! But it seems that their baby brother came prematurely, and has had a tough start in this world. He is EXTREMELY allergic to Moe and Grace and just cannot be around them.

No pictures yet... but here is their Petfinder page: http://www.petfinder.com/petnote/displaypet.cgi?petid=11418017

I don't know . . . premature baby . . . could be having a HOST of problems, only aggravated by an allergy . . . two large dogs . . . baby could conceivably die, depending on how bad his condition / sensitivity to environment.

This one might not be a crappy people situation, I suspect.

Working for an allergy office for several years, I really find this HARD to believe. I think it was just an excuse. Rarely, do we consult on any child under a year of age. Even then, most people are only slightly allergic.

Hubby and I are, and we still have dogs!

OK, maybe I was wrong then. I didn't even question the allergies - didn't know babies couldn't have 'em.

Lynn, perhaps you were right. Maybe people still do suck, even on this one.

I just wrote the shelter about Grace and Moe. I got so excited, I failed to read where they only do local adoptions and we are over 200 miles from there. I did get a response, however, and was advised that the owners only want them to go together, even though the shelter had said they could be split if necessary. Also stated that "Grace is not currently in our program, so I really don't know much about her. Her owners wish to place her in a home along with Moe. " I am not sure what that exactly means, if they are still with the owners or not. Sounded a little funny to me, though.

This is not actually a shelter, it is a local Weimaraner Rescue Group. I think the dogs are still in the home with the family until a local foster family is found for the dogs. Almost Home is great Rescue Group, they have saved many weims, she is located in Middle Tennessee.

Ongoing Care of Breathing Problems
The first thing that parents can do before bringing home a premature baby who has had lung complications in the NICU, is to clean the house and remove air pollution sources. Potential allergens should be removed and smoking should not be allowed in the house. Depending on the circumstances, parents may also want to consider not having a pet.

There are so many things here that are unknown. Maybe this child was born very prematurely, at no fault to the parents and their doctor is recommending they not keep their dogs. Who knows, but I'm sure they are scared and maybe we shouldn't jump to conclusions.
