|
|
| Over the last couple of days I've noticed that Zehen has been having some yellowish, greenish discharge from his penis. Not a whole lot, but just enough to make the tip of his prepuce nice and crusty. This morning he was in bed with me, rolled over on his back sleeping and I noticed he had some of the discharge on his legs! A few weeks ago we were having some trouble with frequent urination with him- I took him to work with me (I work at my vet) and had a UA done- nothing. My vet assured me it was probably behavioral. There was a lot going on with my terrier then and she thought maybe he was getting jealous. But since then the frequent urination has stopped- at least the peeing in the house has, and he seems to be happy and healthy. I have yet to call into work yet and see if he should come in. He hates going in! Has anyone had any trouble with this in their males? |

Our guy has a bit of discharge now and again. I don't see it as much of a problem but more of an intact teenage male. |

Seen it here to with our two boys.....guy thing...lol....goes away after a couple of days...in my life time we have always had male dogs, and always have seen that...so it does not seem to un-normal to me.

| Thanks guys!!! I've heard my vet tell other people "discharge is normal" and I didn't want to call and sound stupid this morning. |

To be technical the discharge is called smegma. it is a natural lubrication of the penis in the sheath covering. Yes it is very normal. However some dogs can get a build up of bacteria and actually get an infection. it's not that common but it happen. With our boy he can get pretty crusty sometimes so we too keep some wipes available to keep him clean
Females get it too. Young females usually have a puppy vaginitis that goes away after their first heat or after being spayed but they too can have a greenish discharge from their vulva for life. Again it's a natural lubrication. I freaked out with our first female that had this but now after seeing so many dogs with it and puppies I'm so much more at ease with it |
