So, we have been thinking about adopting another weim.
I know it will be chaos, but I would love to give a deserving weim a home. As AmyB posted, we have two weims in the spca about 20 minutes from us, and we are very interested.
I was wondering how many weims everyone has at their home, including fosters if any...

Currently we only have 2, Chelsea & Jax. We had a 3rd, KC, but lost him to bloat/gdv a few years back. As soon as we either A) build on our property or B) buy another house, we'll stay at 2. As soon as A or B is accomplished, we'll get a 3rd again and possibly a 4th, 5th......... I'll stop at 5 MAX. We could possibly toss a puppy into the mix, but Rescue is a top priority before that.

Just one now that Ivan is gone. We have had a total of 3 at one time. Bella, Ivan and our foster Duncan.
Eventually, we would definitely like to have a few more. But, that will not be until we retire from the military and one of us (probably me) is staying home full or part time. |

Unfortunately I only have Zane right now.
I sooooo want another one, but I am waiting until I am promoted (within the next year) so that my work schedule is more consistent, and I'm hopefully living closer to work. For now he has to be happy with playing at his buddies at Doggy Day Care once or twice a week. Poor Zane (I really mean poor me!) |

| I have one for now...Gus is a handful but I think that he would like a friend. We are thinking about adopting a 5 year old female. We are just waiting on a call back from the owner to set up a date to have Gus and her meet. |

Well, I applied for the two weims in Annapolis MD spca today. They are stunning, and I would love to have them both.
The volunteers said they have had many applications for both, but have not had one weim owner step forward. So, I guess I get moved up a bit.
I would love to take Astro home (the boy, who is HUGE) if I had to choose one. He is larger, perfect romping partner for Hemi. He's 2.
But Abbie is 7 months old, and just precious. She's no bigger than about 35lbs. She is sooo small. I would be worried about Hemi's play. But she appeared to give her brother a run for his money today .
They came from the same home, different litters, same breeder. The family was being deployed, so there they are.
I was talking to hubby, and he wants Astro. I just know he'll fall in love with Abbie too. Fingers crossed please!!
They were happy that another weim lover applied as well. They looked at me like I had four heads when I said I wanted to apply for both. Then they saw that I have two. The response went something like... "Oooooh. You already have weims! That's great! Wait, you'd have four? Are you nuts?!?" I replied "Yes."
I know it's work, but I am willing to take on that challenge and give two needy weims another great home.
Am I nuts...? |

Yay! You'll love having another. Weims are like potato chips, you can never have just one . |

we have two and a half .when i was first looking for a weim eight years ago i couldnt find one that was closeto here .so i rescued Navajo who is half weim(mother)half black lab(father). he is chocolate brown like a lab but tall and has the longer nose like a weim. he is a great dog.then a couple years after that i met a lady in my vets office that had a pregnant weim with her. well the rest is history, I got a male from her first litter and a female a year later from her second litter. never thought i would ever have three big dogs, but i couldn't be happier. my dogs get along great and usually get along well with other dogs. I would really like to try fostering. I love this breed and it would feel great to know i helped another weim find a forever home. |

Once you have 1, then 2 isn't a problem..... And after adding a 3rd, the Party begins, might as well add some fancy hats and get a 4th.... After we got Jax, our 3rd and a Rescue, we had planned on getting another (4th). Then we decided to sell the house, so no more for us...for now.
You might have a few problems, w/ 2 being bonded and 2 being bonded. But, I'm sure given some time everything will work out.

I voted two... but one of them is just living with us for the next 6 months...
At the moment i have 5 dogs total living with me... my observations have been...
going from two to four is a huge step, and then going back from 4 to 3 is a real difference... you really notice the reduction in work, poo patrol etc, with one less...
going from 4 adults to 4 adults and a weim puppy is another HUGE difference, particularly if the new pup is more active than all 4 put together...
I am looking forward to going back from 5 to 3 in a few months time, but at least i know that if i had to, i could handle 5. Of the 5 dogs currently in the house, two of mine are the youngest and play together the most, so i don't think i will have any issues with breaking any bonds...
I would imagine, with all the same breed, it could be either easier or harder, depending upon how well they all get along, their energy levels etc.
all i can say is... GOOD LUCK!!!
I'll send you my straight jacket in the post if you like |

Wow! You are crazy.
That's pretty awesome though. I've been getting calls about them almost everyday. I hate that they're in the shelter. Another person I talked to on the phone the other day said she wanted to apply for them but they told her they want someone with Weim experience to adopt them. So you have a pretty good chance I'd say.
Keep us posted and good luck!
Oh and I voted 1 Weim since I only own Holly but I have also have Suede here at the moment. |

When I went up there, the lady at the desk kept saying how many applications they had on them. But I asked the girl that took them out for me if any other weim owners had come forward, none she said.
Then when I went up to turn in my application the first lady look so relieved that I had weims. She almost looked apologetic. I understand they only want the best for them, as do I.
I should hear something in the next few days. I am ready for the chaos. I just have to up the exercise, and with four, I'm sure someone will always be up for play time. Chevy and Hemi are very bonded. When I walked them this morning along with Sam, our coon hound house guest for the week, she was 'out of the pack' so to speak.
I never noticed how close they were until today. But then again, the other two are active and hyper, young enough to adjust. I think Chevy will finally be relieved as she doesn't have to rough and tumble with Hemi any more, but she love 'ruling' over 2 more.
And yes, a straight jacket would be lovely. Two please, one for me, one for my husband. Oh, and several for our neighbors as well.
...I kept getting emails and calls from friends telling me to go up there. And I've had so many people come up to me at the annapolis dog park telling me the same. I caved. |
