|
|
Not sure if this is just a coincidence, but Bo's behavior has gotten worse since his neuter last Thursday. I'm guessing that it could be a combination of things...he doesn't have Kam to play with for hours on end outside and it's been brutally hot so he's not getting nearly as much exercise as he has been over the last 3 weeks. But my problem is, he's lunging at my kids!!! And you should see him when he's crated and my kids walk by....it's downright frightening! He barks and jumps at them like some vicious thing (which he's not). We took him for a walk this morning (between the storms) and he would just dart at my kids when they were on their scooters AND off of them.
I'm not sure how to handle this. Any thoughts??????? |

| OH god, that stinks. Stormy had "behavioral" issues for 3 days after his neuter. He was crapping in his crate. Just what I wanted to come home to after a long day at work. He chilled after awhile. |

hmmm sounds like there's a lot going on for Bo.
Junie lunges for anything on wheels. It's bad; she hurt herself doing that on a walk last fall... had to get stitches!
Have you tried mental activities indoors since it's very hot? Also, what about rescue remedy to calm him?
Good luck.
.....how are you doing? |

I am working on his training inside and trying fetch, etc. Still, he's got such a short attention span that his sit/stay is quickly forgotten about when a child walks by. And this is happening while I'm holding the leash AND when it's loose on the floor (he still can't be left out of my sight because of marking...ugh ).
I'm at my wits end with this boy. And the rescue doesn't seem all that interested in any problems I'm having with him. Pretty sad that I've gotten more advice from Chris from MWR than I have from the director of the actual rescue Bo is with.
Right now, he's crated because we were sitting on the couch (Bo was on leash) and Nate got up to throw away a banana peel and Bo tackled him. So now, in his crate, he's acting like a mad man.
God help me....... |

| oh poor bo he doesn't know any better, cus his nit wit previous owner didn't train him. Did you try a prong collar, and just be firm, don't take any BS. I hate when I see my trainer have to do that to dogs in class, but if it has to be done, it has to be done! |

I know...I curse his previous owners regularly. Gosh, I sound so terrible, I mean I know it's not his fault, it's just very frustrating. The timing is probably perfect, though. He's definitely keeping my mind preoccupied. |

Maybe he thinks he is (or should be) higher in the pack status than your kids?
Can your kids help train Bo (with you there to supervise). Basic commands -- sit, down. It may help if they are also the ones who put his food down for him to eat. |

We had it suggested to us once that Rosko should be neutered to 'calm him down' so I went deep into the research mode (we have plans to stud him if we see the potential for him to help the breed).
Basically, it came down to this: Neutering _does not_ necessarily calm your dog down at all. It's pretty much all just psychological with people. They want to think the dog is calmer but really he is the same.
What it DOES do is help if you have a raging hormonal hump beast on your hands. If you want to slowdown, or stop, the inappropriate humping (basically any sexually related behaviors) or maybe excessive marking, neutering may help.
So, yeah, doesn't surprise me that Bo is still rambunctious at all.
If you want to test the affects of neutering on your dog before committing there is a handy shot they can give him at the vet that basically supresses the same hormones as neutering. The only results are usually a decrease in humping and marking. Not much else. |
