Sounds like you are off to a great start. Hang in there and stick to it, I am sure you'll see progress before you know it!

On a side note, I had to move back in with my dad one time after several years, when I first seperated with my ex husband. UGH, I hated it. It was me, my collie, my two kids, and then his collie. The house was all of 900 sq ft. It was a doozy to say the least. I don't think I lasted 5 months but I wish I would have stayed longer just to save up more before I started renting.

You can do it! Smile

Haha thanks! Yea the parents thing for me I think is more of a pride issue. Ive always done it on my own..so being home is kind of embarrassing for me. The whole "ohhh you live with your parents still??" thing is the worst when Ive literally lived on my own since I was 17 in NJ, PA, TN, and IL.

The actual living arrangement is great. They are better than any roomates I could ever find. They love Grace more than I could have ever hoped and do completely care about her well being and I trust them with her more than anyone else I know. Its just the whole ugghhhhhh Im 27 years old and living with mommy and daddy complex. LOL Laughing

but Id live with them another 10 years for Grace if I needed to!

Yea, I hear ya! I moved out when I turned 17 and going back especially with two kids and failed marriage really stunk! I worked through it though, if I had to, I'd do it again. Smile

What the behaviorist has asked us to do is once we are ready to do soemthing fun with her to first leave her alone in the house for @ 3 minutes. Than come in, get her and go do whatever it was we were planning on doing. So hopefully she can start associating being left alone with resulting in her than going to do some of her favorite things.

Thank you for sharing that tidbit...I must emit some different type of energy when we are going to do something fun together too, because she just bounds around the couch, onto the floor, over me - back up, circling, nearly taking me out down the stairs, etc etc. so I think I might have to give that a try!

As for the different rooms bit the behaviorist recommended you do - we are doing that too and it seems to work wonders. I give the command "Be Back" and she's finally starting to understand that I really do mean I'll be back and that I'm not stranding her forever.

I watched the video too - poor girl. That howl, aww just makes you wish you could take her everywhere, but I'm so glad that you are making the effort with her to realize it is ok to be away from mommy.

Goodluck - you guys can do it!

JL, I certainly hope things get better for Grace. You are so good with her, she will slowly come around, I'm sure.

I don't have the heart to watch that video yet,,,,,,

don't watch it.. i glanced thru.. poor thing. i hate when they get so upset.. you know they aren't in any physical pain.. they are just frustrated and missing you.. hard to swallow.
i taped hooch once when he was little.. will never do it again.. although i am quite sure he now stays settled in there.. no signs of "unhappy weimy"..
i like thinking that now.. and don't want to feel any worse then i already do when i leave.. Sad

Wow! Poor Grace...It's weird how she is working on her kong and then just goes into this whole howling, go crazy barking Shocked

One day at a time...we had to do the Non-greeting thing too, a little harder than I thought but that I've finally mastered.

Try to get through to your mom, I know its tough, but its to help Grace...my husband wasn't on board at first and I told him if we were keeping Gunther, we were doing it together, he has been so committed since that talk and has a great energy with the dogs.

I know all about the living with your parents thing...Ugh...been there, done that!

Stay positive and I'm sure you'll start seeing progress Very Happy

omg i know!! it makes me think what they say @ for her its just an automatic response now from doing it so long seem soo true. the first half of the video she doesnt look all that stressed..shes calmly licking her kong and letting out a bark and howl here and there just bc I guess its what shes used to doing...but than towards the end of the video she does seem to have visibly worked herself up.

Yeah! definitely worked up! And she is doing the same steps with her feet too! I know with Gunther there was a lot of times I wanted to give up, but then I would see a little glimpse of progress and I was on top of the world, I hope you see that soon! Smile

sad pathetic grace http://gallery.me.com/jlstorch#100281

So heres a video i took today of Grace in her crate. Its LONG...for the first few 5-10 minutes shes not too bad but towards the middle to end of the video shes just starting to get all worked up.

Ill add another post in a few w/ an update on what the behaviorist is having us do and whatnot. Part of it is video taping her in the crate so they can see what she does.

I took the time to watch your video all the way through and Grace's actions seem very, very similar to how Mika has been. She will also chew at her Kong or on a bone, often starting to sook a bit while she is chewing, and then work herself up more and more. Likewise, she may stop her howling & barking and go back to the bone for a little while before re-commencing her whining.
