We've decided to go grain free diet for Luna!
I should mention that I'm positive we need to stick with a poultry based food - her stomach does not agree wtih venison (or any red meat I would assume) or lamb for sure.
I'm thinking either Innova Evo Large Bites -or- Welness Core
Anyone have any experience with either, or a suggestion for a similar style of food? |

| Jake is on the Wellness Core...and he does great on it. I think the kibble is chicken based, I will check the bag when I get home. They also make a canned..not to much variety though..just chicken, turkey and venison. they also make grain free treats. Jake only gets those and cheese cubes. (I spend a small fortune in cheese cubes as I give it to all of them). |

Whatever you do, don't do Canidae...they just switched their formula...not so good. I tried California Natural for Pep before we did the ProPlan. It was good for her ears, just not the pooper....she was

I haven't had any problems with Canidae. Why is it "not so good"? |

| My other three eat Canidae and do just fine on it. Jake has lung cancer so I don't give him any carbs, and since he had the torsion surgery he does not tolerate the raw well either. That's why I switched him to the Wellness. |

| Orijen makes a grain free poultry based food. Cooper tolerates it well - no scratching/licking & no soupy poops. He gets only about 1/4 c per day in his buddy bottle, but he could not even tolerate that much of any other food. |

We currently feed Canidae Chicken & Rice - but I'm thinking the 'new formula' isn't doing her any good... we just picked up our first bag of the new stuff last weekend, and since then her poops are not so great, and her but STINKS!
I ended up deciding on the Wellness Core, since it is a little lower protien than the EVO, and I've heard too much protien can be rough on the belly too... gonna wait to do the switch until her ears are feeling better though! |

| We are feeding Nature's Variety Prairie, but they also have a grain free line with both canned and kibble. It's 'Instinct' and for kibble, they have rabbit or chicken or duck and turkey for the protein and use tapioca instead of potatoes. Also, by cup comparison, it looks slightly lower in calories than EVO. (Using the chicken based diet) |

| i've tried a number of grain free kibble, and settled on wellness core ocean, since uno seems to have reaction to kelp and yeast and seems like chicken based kibble gives him eye boogers, he seems to do well on this one. |

Funny you mention eye boogers.....I switched Darby from eagle pack to canidae chick/rice and I noticed she's getting eye boogers (which she didn't have when we first brought her home and was on the eagle). I was thinking about something fish-based to try out (I've been supplementing her with Seacure and her poops miraculously firmed up ). So I'm thinking something "fishy" would work. |

I switched to Evo, and love it. Nice solid poops, healthy coats... I am very impressed with it!
We tried Chevy on everything. She could never digest it. They both LOVE this food, they can't wait for me to put the bowls down. Each time I go into our laundry room, they freak! [/i]

I was in the store on Saturday to do the same thing, switch to grain free. I went with the intention of buying Evo, but ended up going with Wellness Core (original formula). It was about $10 cheaper than Evo. The only difference I could really see is that Evo is higher in protein and fat.
Here is the link to the "6 star" foods--I think they all may be grain free:
http://www.dogfoodanalysis.com/dog_food_reviews/showcat.php/cat/8
The guy at the store mentioned one other grain-free choice, which I think was Wolf King, or Wolf something, if you wanted another choice. |

Well the Wellness Core made it to my house... we're on day 3 today and we're mixing about 1/3 Wellness to 2/3 Canidae so far so good.
I'm eager to find out if this will be helpful for her... she's itchy, has eye boogies (excessive) and since the Canidae 'new formula' came about her bum smells awful!
For those who have recently switched, I would love to hear how it went! |

Mindy, how much do you think she'll be eating per day (once she's completely switched)?
I'm thinking about switching to the Wellness ocean, but I'm hoping to keep her somewhere around 4-5cups/day, which is what she's getting now with the canidae.
Input, anyone? |
