Hello, we recently adopted an 8 mo. old Weim from the humane society. Its our first weim, he's been great so far. No accidents in the house, good in the crate at night , and super with the kids (2 and 4).
Took a few days to adjust to our small dog, was playing a bit rough. Still intrigued by the kitty who is offended that we brought home another dog. Kitty was used to our dogs (RIP Selena &Mia) who didnt pay him any attention
Max is friendly but has had moments where he is unsure of himself...socializing is our next task...
Hubby is enrolled in obedience class with him, Max seems like a fast learner - already starting to sit for me to get a treat! I was surprised by how fast he seems to adjust to our home/routine, its only been a week. Here's a pic with my daughter..

Thanks for the welcome.
Nina and Max do make a cute pair - he is wonderful with the kids... he is really smart which is good and bad We discovered he can open doors, baby gates, but he has managed to stay out of trouble so far.. i dont know much about this breed, but i like a dog that can figure stuff out, i find it easier to train, even if its a bit more work in the beginning. He seems more willing to please than my rotties were..
I will say he is persistent - he's not crazy about the crate, at night he'll complain the first few minutes, but then he's quiet. During the day if we have to put him up because we cant watch him he will howl...so hopefully with time we can get him to like his crate more..he plays with his toys when he's out but not in the crate...i'm sure with being at the shelter, he doesnt like it. He's still chewing on things so cant leave him unsupervised yet...
Also, he is not the bravest soul, so once his cough clears up we can take him out more... need to get him used to horses and other farm critters, first horse he saw he freaked, and it was just walking with a rider down our street - any of you ride as well? |
