Back at the vets again last night. Bunker started itching his ears really bad Sunday. By the time we got him and appointment for last night he was just very agitated and whining and barking. He almost never barks just to go out and if I'm home alone and he morphs into my guard dog. Normally he lets us play with his ears all the time. I mean look at them, how can you not! He would wing out if we even touched them and was not interested in fetch which normally he'll play until my arms ready to fall off. He definitely was not himself. So the vet assistant swabbed his ears which was a job in itself. Then the vet came in to look. It took all 3 of us containing him so he could get a look. He told me they were the cleanest ears he had ever seen! He conferenced with the other vets and they think it's an inner ear infection. The only way to verify this is to sedate him and go exploring with a scope. While they weren't too keen on unnecessarily medicating, they also didn't want to sedate him if it's not needed. So we have antibiotics and pain meds. If he is not better in 2 days then they want to sedate him. I searched thru some related posts on this but didn't know if anyone had any experience with this or had an info that might be helpful? |

I'd have to agree with that. |

Seems to be better. He is still itching occasionally but not like he was. He let me touch them this morning with no whining but I don't know if its the pain pill doing its job or if he's actually not in pain anymore?? I think tonight I will just give him half a dose of pain meds or possibly none to see what happens and then if he seems uncomfortable go from there. He did want to play fetch last night for about 20 minutes and we went on a short walk so his energy is coming back.
Brian called, he is getting off work a few hours early today since he's been putting in 10-12 hour days so he'll give me an update once he's home.
When the vet calls, I'll see what he thinks about his progress. (They call after every visit for a progress report regardless but he'll be calling tonight for sure.) I'd rather he not be sedated unless necessary but it'll be up to him whether I spend my birthday at the vet or a nice dinner and lounging with the fur-kids. |
