Finally able to get back to training after my surgery. Sure feels good to work dogs again.
Athena has decided that pigeons aren't any fun anymore. No style.
Trying to style her up a little
Zeus and all his intensity

It's been pretty hot here, so I haven't been working him. Didn't want to turn him off of birds (happens sometimes in extreme temps) Just got the older dogs out on some birds more for me than them. It's supposed to get back down in the lower 80's this week, so I hope to get him back out. For right now, it's just romps thru the fields for him. |

If I put out some quail or pheasants, that all changes and she becomes all business. Guess the training won't be cheap with her anymore. |

112F not your ideal training weather. Even at sun up 4:30am its already 80F. I hope to get up North in mountains for some training this summer, but yeah it's rough out there. |

Got the dogs back out this morning on some pheasants. Here's the pics, enjoy.
Athena
Her points are much better on pheasants. She still isn't the most stylish dog.
Zeus
Here are some good backs out of Athena.
Notice my training partner in this one. He's good help and wants to train dogs when he grows up.
And the retrieves. Tried to shoot them over water to keep the dogs cool.

I've had so many other people's dogs in for training, I haven't had much time for my own. So, I made time yesterday. I seeded the field with birds and took the dogs on a mock hunt. I was quite pleased with my pup. Like his mother, he is a natural backer. Points a little close, but wild quail this season will fix that.
Zephyr on point, Athena backing
Zeus on point, Athena & Zephyr backing
Following 3 are all Zeus
This is Goose, he is a very BIG weim I've had in for training a couple of times. At first, he was showing no interest in birds at all, but now, he is starting to point and chase.

I just saw the banana tail on Zeus. He doesn't go back to NAFC Buddy, does he? He always throws that tail, even passing it down to his grandkids.
Nice dog for sure! |
