You're so funny!
These kids (approx 17 or 18 years old) walked by my house a few weeks ago. One of the girls yelled, "Hey, look! A greyhound! I love those dogs."
Her one friend said "That's not a greyhound. I don't know what it is but it's not a greyhound."
So the girl yells up to me ( I was on the porch, on the phone, laughing at them ) and asks me "That's a greyhound right?"
I said, "No, she's a Weimaraner!"
"OH YEAH!!" She turns to her friends and tells them that Weimarimers race with the greyhounds.
WHAT?!?!?!
That's the latest, stuff like this happens ALL the time!!! |

| Oh yeah, last week!!! I was at the gas station and Holly was in the car with me. 2 girls walk up and my windows were down. The one asks if she can pet my dog, I say Yes and they both stop to pet Holly. So the other girl asks me what breed she is. "A Weimaraner" I say. "Ugh, I hate those dogs!" she says. "WHY?!" I asked. She says, "Because...I heard they hate cats!" And she continues to pet Holly!!!! |

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA OMG I am laughing out loud in the office! This is way toooooo funny, hahahahahahahaha |
That's pretty typical, really. I hang out at the Pointing Dog Journal web site, and each different breed's owners typically have funny names for other breeds. Examples:
English Setters= Longhaired Dalmatians
Brittanies=Hamsters
Vizslas=Veezles ( similar to Weasels)
And so on.. |

| I got the Chocolate Lab thing all the time. Occasionally Greyhound or Pit Bull, too. Had one guy call him a coonhound ( yeah, right) but one of the best I heard was......a Chessie (Chesapeake Bay Retriever).. Kinda missing a bit of wool there for a Chessie. Neat dogs, but resemble a Weim about like my MG resembles a Land Rover. |

Here in the UK people with a weim tend to pronounce it the german way Veimaraner, you should see the looks you get from people then!
At the weekend I had someone ask me if Bo was an albino...I just looked quizzically at them and they said well she has very pale eyes for a lab!! Bearing in mind that Bo is still quite skinny and very leggy with the biggest ears I have ever seen, I don't really see why they looked offended when I laughed at them! |

That's how I felt when I got the Bloodhound one especially. I was insulted on Slade's behalf! |

one guy was spot on convinced Hooch was a dobie..
a lot of others say, "oh i love his blue eyes".. they are clear sea glass green.. not a hint of blue, folks..
one old lady leaned into her husband and said, "look.. it's one of those weisenheimers."
a lot of people ask what breed, or butcher weimaraner pretty good..
no one believes he is 7 months old, or that he still has a good 30 lbs to go, give or take..
i think it's funny, though. i don't let it get to me..
Hooch and i just walk on, and silently chuckle.. |

I like to call my doggies Weiner-wanners.
A few weeks back at the dog park I called Elsa and Ben to come back so we could go home...but I said, "C'mon Weinerwanners, let's go".
Then as I was leaving I heard some great pronunciations of what they were trying to say, and a few gave me some weird looks. Duh! If I own a Weim....I certainly know how to pronounce it. |

I like it!
Wilson has the hound marking's so no one ever knows what he is. Even people familiar with the breed think he is some sorta mix. I love to tell them about Riley the other pup with markings on this site. We get all sorts of stuff from hounds, doberman, viszla......I really like it when people act surprised that he is a weim and comment on how large he is. Wilson is a stout 67 pounds, rather on the small side for a male weim. |

I had Ruby called at obedience "weimer-woo-woo" LMAO. I tried so hard not to laugh. Maybe she just got tounge tied.
I once had a kid yell out from across the park "OH MY GOD LOOK EVERYONE!!! IT'S A WEIMARANER". I was embarressed and so proud at the same time because about 30 people were staring at me thinking WTF? |
