Does anyone out there use this with raw? It seems like a good idea, but it is absurdly expensive!

Actually the holistic vet here recommends Urban Wolf be used with a home cooked or raw diet. It could be because there are many people who don't do the research and come up with a good balanced diet or have a mentor to help them in the beginning.

Were you shopping for it locally? If you wanted to try it, it may be less expensive on line.

Aaron went ahead and bought it at that place on 6th st, but everywhere I have looked online, it is actually more expensive, than it is there. That is one of the reasons that I want to use it-- I don't feel competent enough to come up with my own raw diet for them. Hopefully that will change with more research.

I'll check the place over close to us... I think they also have Urban Wolf... and let you know how much it is there.

I have heard these two books are good resources for raw diets:

Dr. Pitcairn's Complete Guide to Natural Health for Dogs and Cats by Dr. Richard Pitcairn

Natural Nutrition for Dogs and Cats by Dr. Kymythy Schultze

and if you have access to a copy of the June 2007 issue of Whole Dog Journal there is an article on preparing a balanced home cooked diet.

Thanks so much for all your help! I'd love to learn how to put together great meals for them, but I am such a chicken about it-- I've been a vegetarian way too long to not be grossed out by gizzards and necks and backs. Time to get over that!
