Ok so I am sitting here bored at work and was looking at some puppy mill sites. I am broken hearted and angry right now. I just found out that my state is one of the most well known for having puppy mills. GRRRRR What can we do to find these places and shut them down. One site I looked at actually showed momma weims with no hair, torn ears and no teeth. The look in their eyes was enough to make you sick. I want to do anything and everything I can to help find these dogs. Refusing to buy from pet stores is not enough. Something else needs to be done!!!! I AM SOO MAD!!!!!!!!! |

I can't even look at those online images without crying.
It makes me so angry that these people exist that are so inhumane and greedy that they ruin, abuse, and sacrifice the lives of dogs to make a profit. It also aggravates me that there isn't enough legislation to govern this places - it shouldn't even be governed, it should just be fully banned. People need to be sent there and shut them down.
Here is some good websites

It is enough if everyone does it.... which most people don't due to ignorance. The key is education... |

I agree. One person at a time, and the useless social parasites milling dogs won't have a market to sell to.
Personally, the conditions in a pet store are often enough (even if it's "clean", it's so emotionally damaging) that I don't even think it should be legal to sell dogs that way, but that's a whole other issue. |

I wish I would have known something about the places stores get their puppies from. I have two puppy mill dogs. I walked in, saw Chevy and took her home.
They had no idea about weims. Obviously, I was a first time owner, and they sold me a WEIM!
The key thing is to raise awareness for this issue. If more people know about it, the less likely they are to go there for a pet. |

One of my dog's was a puppy mill dog too. He died at the age of 5 from a severe case of inherited epilepsy. Go figure. |

He died three weeks ago today. Poor boy.
I will never ever support the store we bought him from. We honestly didn't even know puppy mills existed when we purchased him.
Though I do buy from pet stores that don't sell dogs. |

I'm the same. I won't buy at all from a store that supports puppy milling. |

| I don't know how far this will go, but I put together an email with the 'flyers' from one of the websites. I sent it to my daughter, she sends it to her friends..and so on...and so on. Who knows..maybe it will touch a nerve somewhere down the line. |

We don't shop at these places, not for quite a while. We don't even go in...
One thing you can do -- Go into these shops. See how the puppies are kept. See if they are all healthy, well fed, treated well. If they are not. Just walk out, don't confront them at all the people who work there at all. Then report them -- to the state agency or whatever agency is appropriate in your area. And go back again.. ask other people to do the same...
A couple of years ago, we had a "pet store" run by people who were known to be puppy mill people. They had been reported to the state on more than one occasion before their shop opened. In the words of the person I asked about them: "they are clueless". The shop was not open very long. I don't know if they were reported several times or just did not have the business they thought they would. |

..but these people know nothing about the breeds that they are carrying either. So the people who buys these dogs get a double whammy.
They get a dog that is from a puppy mill, and a dog that they were told would be well suited for their lifestyle. This is why we have over run rescues and shelters! |
