So my week has gotten better, Shocked Well, not exactly! My cat is still sick and now today when I took the dogs in for their 6 month check up and Nena tested positive for lyme!

Does anyone have any experience with this? I have never seen a tick on her!

My bill was only $813 today and I can bill Nena & Gunther's stuff to the pet insurance. It's only money, right?

Well be thankful you do have the pet insurance! It would be a lot worse if you didn't. No I never heard of getting lyme disease without seeing a tick! How does that happen?? Hope She gets better soon!!

only 813?! Sheesh!
We spent 1100 on dental work 3 wks ago and racked up about 1500 in the past 24 hrs. We have ins. but who knows what we'll get back...

Sorry about Nena. I had a roommate in college who had Lyme. That was back in the 80's though and I think they have a lot better meds now for humans and canines!
Keep us posted.

Karen,

I was just telling Kelly that I am going to have Silkie tested for Lyme. Did Nena have any symptoms at all??

hey when I posted a few weeks ago asking @ the lymes vaccine someone had posted a link with some info about lymes.

I recall it said something along the lines of in NJ 90% of dogs are exposed to lymes but only 10% ever show symptoms or become sick from it.

Im almost sure Grace has to have been exposed to it. I just hope hse doesnt get sick ugh. In the past 2 weeks Ive pulled AT LEAST 50 ticks off her. We live in hte Pine Barrens and she lives going out and running the trails with us but each time I check her for ticks immediately when we get home but shes just covered (especially in those teeny tiny ones).

Karen! I'm sorry that this week is just becoming such a pain. I hope that KC is doing better and that everything goes well with Nena. To be honest I have never heard of anything about Lyme disease, except the scare tactics about ticks. I wish I knew more, but I'm praying for you guys all around. You did so much for Scooter when he was sick, if you need anything at all I'm here. I'm still so grateful (as you know Wink ). But prayers are fast, and they are coming your way.

Nena has not shown any symptoms, but my vet wants to treat it as she believes if you wait to see clinical signs it is in the joints and sometimes too late. I always check them really good when we hike and make sure there are no ticks on them...go figure. Rolling Eyes

My vet was running more blood work and I had to collect urine from Nena at the vet's office (Now that was funny Laughing Picture me following Nena around with one of those "female urine collection pans" and trying to hold onto Gunther while collecting pee from Nena) Even funnier one of Nena's many nicknames is "Nena P" Very Happy
Between KC, Nena and Gunther I was there for 4 hours!

Jake had lyme disease when he came to us. He was not having any symptoms but the vet treated him anyway. He was on a months worth of antibiotics twice a day and was given a lyme disease vaccine which we were told was to help his body to deal with the disease. We were told that he may still test positive in the future but no further treatment would be needed.

I'm sorry I missed this thread .... Rosie was diagnosed 6/20 with lyme's even though she tested negative. She had all the right symptoms and was going downhill way too fast so we got the antibiotics in her.

Any particular questions on it? I'd be happy to help you out with what I know/have learned!

I have/had Lyme, Not a good thing in humans. It even killed a kid here two years ago.

I'm not sure in animals, but with humans it's very hard to get under control let alone cure, I was on antibiotics for over eight years.

Thanks everyone for all your responses.

Nena is doing fine. She has been very good about taking her pills Presumed innocent (my little angel) and seems totally normal!

She rolled in lots of horse poo on our hike today, so that's as normal as it gets!!!! Rolling Eyes

Good to hear she's doing well.

I've been debating on whether or not to vaccinate Holly for this, it's pretty common in my area and hearing about all of your puppies getting it is so scary so I probably will.
