I post this with a broken heart. This is the very hardest part of rescue. My Link morphed into a different dog between yesterday and today. He bit my sister in law yesterday and fought with one of her dogs. Even after a time out it was clear he wanted to hurt her and he fought with Sammy again.
He tried to scale our six foot fence this morning to get at a neighbor I was talking to and this afternoon he fought with Scout, Silkie and Gunnar. To the point I could not have them out together.
In hindsight the early signs of severe aggression were there but I didn't want to see it. The chronic marking, the fact that I could not have him in close quarters with the others, his constant pestering or challenging of the other dogs. He bit John's hand the very first time John met him. We kind of blew that off.
It wasn't his fault. And I am sure his previous owner knew and that's why he left him at the shelter. It why he lied about why he left him there.
There is no way we could have adopted him out. It would not have been safe.
I truly believe he loved John and I. He just decided that no one else was allowed in that world. Once he felt comfortable with us, he felt free to let his anger and frustration out.
I am so angry that some human, through neglect, abuse or cruelty, ruined what could have been a wonderful little dog. Even once the painful decision was made, he was fine with me and John.
Please believe that if there were any other way, I would have done anything to save him.
I am so sorry, little boy. I know it wasn't your fault and I wish I could have helped you. I tried, I really did. I love you, Link.
God speed, sweet baby.......please forgive me.

I don't know if you saw my reply to your other post, so I will copy it here:
I am so sorry about Link. What a sad day for you.
You know, sometimes these dogs come from backgrounds and places that would be so hard to understand. And they come out with scars that we cannot see or comprehend.
It sounds like the previous owner was a coward and left for you to do what he would not.
But know that if you felt that Link loved you and John, then he loved you. He trusted to you to take care of him and do what was right for him. And you did. You set him free to be a happy Weim and to know peace that he did not have on earth because of his past before you knew him.
Thank you for caring so much for Link. He knew he was loved because of you and he will wait for you at the Bridge. |

| I lost the first post, or I thought I did. I hit submit then couldn't find it. Thank you for the kind words. I need that right now. Knowing it was the right thing to do doesn't make it any easier. |

Oh Lynn, I am so sorry. I cannot even imagine how difficult it must have been to make that decision. Rest easy knowing that you did the right thing and prevented anyone else from being put in harm's way.
Thank you for loving Link enough to take such good care of him and send him to a place where he does not have to feel threatened anymore and can forgot about the things that led him to this point. |

Lynn,
I'm so so sorry about all that you've gone through. But trust me when I say, that I know you did absolutely everything for that little guy. You are the best person you can be because of everything you've done and will continue to do to help these guys.
I do not foster weims but we do other dogs and I posted about a dog bite I received from a Chi mix. We had kept this guy for several days trying to work on his attitude but it only got worse. We then found out from the previous owner he had bit three other people! So, needless to say we had a tough decision to make.
If only the world was without the stupid people that ruin these dogs lives and make it hard for them to recover.
I wish so much that I could give you a BIG hug, because I know how hard it is to feel like you've failed helping this dog. But trust me, you didn't. You were his saving grace. Thank you for helping and continuing to help these animals. All of them appreciate their special angel.
God bless you Link! |

Oh Lynn I am so sorry. This is the very hardest part of rescue I feel. How very unfair of that owner to do what he did. I am sure he knew of these issues...and knew that a rescue would not take him if he shared this history. I know you cared very much about Link..it was obvious in your posts about him over the past week.
Maybe it was meant to be this way...you found him at that shelter where he very likely would have had the same fate but have spent his last days miserable and locked up. You brought him home and gave him prob one of the best weeks of his life...what a great way to go out. He left this world with not only the love of you and John but our whole board...prob more than he experienced in his life. I am SURE he will be waiting for you at the bridge.
So sad that people dont know how to treat animals and could be so cruel to treat an animal in such a way that gives it no chance in life.
THANK YOU FOR ALL YOU DO!!!
Grace sends you lots of feel better kisses. |

Lynn, I am so truly sorry to hear this. I am sitting here crying because even we had gotten so attached to Link. Every-time you post a picture i would send it to Mali and we would talk about you guys and Link. We had all gotten so attached to him and we will miss hearing about him. He is in a happy peaceful place now running free looking down on you and John thanking you for the wonderful few days you all had together.
Our prayers are with you and Link! |

Oh, Lynn. I am so very very sorry. What a difficult decision for you to have to make. Just think though, what an incredible few weeks you gave him, probably his best ever! Never has he been so loved and so well cared for. Big hugs

What an awful decision to have to make... It is just plain NOT fair that people can treat animals the way they do...

These really are some painful bad news This thread brought tears to my eyes...everything because of one stupid human Good thing is, Link spent his last days with 2 WONDERFUL humans and he even got to hang out with some weimie friends.
You are amazing, thank you for taking care of him and loving him...He is a sweet tiny weim angel now

If making the right decision were easy everyone would do it. Sorry you had to make this tough decision but it was the right one. Can't risk him attacking anyone especially a child.
RIP Link. |

Lynn, that's terrible that you had to go through that. I know you loved him so much. You did what was best for him and you are such a brave and strong person for being able to do that. Link will never have to be in another bad situation again, without you in his life he most likely would have been in one bad situation after another.
RIP Link |
