I have been visiting for a few weeks and thought I would join in. My wife and I adopted Duchess, a seven-year-old weim about two weeks ago. First week was kind of tough, but I think things are starting to get easier as she adjusts to our household. Here she is smiling for the camera!
We had an older greyhound several years, and have been dogless for about five years and thought the time was right to adopt again. We also have two houserabbits, so that always makes it a little interesting to introduce a dog. Our greyhound was fine with them, and Duchess has been very well behaved!

Welcome! Congrats on adopting Duchess. Do the rabbits wander around the house? Dogs and rabbits.... that has got to be a hoot every once in a while. |

We all watch tv in the same room.
She's funny because she will watch them with some interest, but then put her head down and do a sigh.
She will also lick them on their heads--we joke and wonder if it is a lick, or a little taste. |

I know exactly what you mean. When the dog nibbles on the cats tail I am pretty sure he's thinking, Hmmmmm tastes like chicken. |

Thanks. We are pretty laid back, and Duchess seems happy with that! The two walks she gets every day are enough to tire her out, and that's fine with us. Like our vet said, a good weim is a tired weim. |

| Absolutely! Your vet has the right idea! Welcome to the forum and good luck with Duchess. Sounds like she found herself the right home! (Be careful with those bunnies. You never know what can happen when your back is turned!) |

First, I would like to say THANK YOU to you for adopting an older Weim. A lot times in rescue they are a bit harder to place because everyone wants a younger Weim and some of the best dogs get passed up just because they are a bit older and wiser! So thank you for that.
Secondly, congrats on getting a Weim. I am sure you will find that they are a life long friend and will shower you with all the love you will shower them with. They are great dogs, I can't imagine my life w/o a Weim in it.
And I couldn't agree more with your vet. |
