Shamaya is 14 weeks now, and I am trying to get signed up for some classes. Trouble is, there are not a lot of options in this city. And since I don't have a car, I can't really travel that far.
So there are two schools I am considering. School one, Pawsitive Puppies sounds great. It's everything I was looking for, and then some. Jan (the trainer) has experience like crazy. She's been doing this, personally, for over 25 years. Trouble is, the classes are on a Tuesday night. Well, that's one of the nights I work. I could ask to have them off, but since I only work 3 days a week, I'm loosing quite a bit of money. Money I can't really afford.
School two, K9 Connections has been in business for over 35 years. The puppy class has the basics. Thing is, my neighbours have a Golden Retriever. He's a couple weeks older than Shams. And I talk to them often, I asked the daughter how it was going, and she said that she couldn't believe how hard they were on the puppies. And when I was talking to the mom, she said Tobey was barking in class, so the trainer came up and shoved her fingers in his mouth until he gagged. The mom said she's not going back, because she can't handle it and doesn't see the point of going through all of this just to do a couple of "tricks".
So, I'm wondering if it's really that harsh? I mean, they can't be in business for over 35 years being mean. I understand they have to be really firm.
I don't know. I just don't know what one to choose. The one I really want, or the one that better suits -my- life...financially.
Oh, and Shamaya already knows all the basic commands. She'll stay when I put her food down until I said it's okay. Today we were outside and came across a cat and a dog on separate occasions, and she sit and waited both times. So I'm just doing this more for socialization, for us to have a night out and because it'll do us both good.
Hmm.....
Thanks for listening.
I'm going to bed.

| I think you should go visit each and observe, then make your choice. If both are not acceptable, then maybe you can get some dog people together for an informal class, and of course for socialization. |
