I've been reading, but I'm so confused on this subject. Anyways here are the immunization shots that Shamaya has received:
3 weeks: NeoPar
5/6/7weeks: Canine Distemper-Adenovirus Type 2- Parainfluenza- Parvovirus
10 weeks: Canine Booster (DA2PPv)
My next vet appointment is July 2. She's schedule for a check up, and a shot-Canine Booster (DA2PPv) She'll be almost 14 weeks on July 2.
I'm wondering, is this shot necessary?
Somehow, I'm feeling like it's not.... |

Vaccinations are a debated issue.
Didn't your breeder give you a protocol? You can follow the WCA or WAC advise. I would ask you vet if they are aware of Weimaraner sensitivity to vaccinations and frankly discuss what is needed and what is not in your area. And you could chose to titer instead of giving the third booster.
We decided to go with this...
7.5 weeks - DAP2, nasal bordatella and deworming
12 weeks - DAP2 booster and fecal
16 weeks - DAP2 booster (Breeder would have been happy with titer but insurance required booster)
20 weeks - three year rabies vaccine (We might have waited longer but it was required by training schools in our area)
24 weeks - leptospirosis (Highly debated. We decided to since there is a high incidence in our area, we live off a conservation area and we are field training)
11 months - heartworm (HeartGuard. It wasn't required sooner because of our seasons)
18 months - nasal bordatella, leptospirosis, fecal
Our vet runs on a modified vaccination schedule in which viral vaccinations are NOT given yearly as part of the "regular routine" and three year rabies vaccines are given (some vets in our area give one year rabies to puppies and then switch to three years). We have decided to always give the nasal bordatella as our vet and breeder believe it gives better protection and is one less injection. We are not giving corona or lymes. |

I totally agree with the above schedule and yes your breeder should have give you some sort of schedule but I know the WCA has a great protocal too
We have always done the following and have had great success
6 weeks DA2PP
9 weeks - DA2PP & intranasal bordetella
12 weeks - DA2PP
20 weeks Rabies
depending on the season heartworm and flea prevention can be started anytime
I like to wait for lepto vaccine until they are 1 year or older as it is a VERY strong reactive vaccine. But if you are in an endemic area best to do it as a pup. Again this is what has worked well for us but it's always nice to hear what others are doing and what has worked well for them
We don't do corona or lyme either |

| For our shots with Lucy and Sammy, we decided to separate all shots. We give 1 shot per time. Then we wait 3 weeks in between all of them when needed. I know for some people this would be a big pain, but we have had a bad experience with our first weim "Wilson". We also believe the shots gave him immune deficiency. Wilson was put to sleep when he was only 19 months old. We miss him everyday! So after that fact we did our research with the help from our breeder and separating the shots and holding off the lepto until age 2 seems to be the key. I guess we at least learned from our bad experience and can inform others about the shots. |

Thanks for the replies. I'm trying to read up on vacs, but the more I read the more confused I get.
The breeder told me to get her two boosters before she was 16 weeks old. So I guess this is what I'll do! |

| Yes most breeders want their pups to have their vaccines before 16 weeks. That is when the immune system can get challenged is 16-19 weeks. so try to stay away from vaccines during that period. Between your breeder and your vet you should be able to come up with a good vaccine schedule. Listen to your breeder as they know their dogs the best. They will also have good info about any problems that they have may have had in the past with vaccines. So it's very important to stay in touch with them. even if your dog never had ant issues that is something that they should know to!!! |

What does this mean, did she get one at 5 weeks, one at 6 weeks and one at 7 weeks? (I hope not??)
I think every dog owner should read this site:
