I joined this site back in January 8th, 2008 Wink

When I first got here I was one SCARED New Weim Owner, not just because my new pup was a WEIM Laughing but also cause my new weim was 3 months old, severely skinny and had a BAD case of MegaEsophagus Sad

Today I'm a confident weim owner and I'm 100% in love with Lexx Cool My boy will turn 1 year old in July 31st, we've learned how to handle his M.E. condition to keep him safe and and he looks great!

I'm telling you this because everything Lexx and I are today, is mostly thanks to YOU guys, all Weim Addicts in this forum!

Thanks for all the wonderful information and help you've given us along the way!! Razz Razz Razz

This is Lexx the day we got him, he was terrified -- 3 months old:

And this is Lexx one month ago, cuddling with Aunt Adriana -- 9 months old:

It's been so hard, I haven't slept properly in 8 months and Lexx is a constant challenge...but he is SO WORTH IT!! Rolling Eyes

Thanks again guys!! Razz

Im so glad for you. That looks like one happy pup!

I do have a question for you about megaesophagus...that word came up once when I had to bring Grace to the ER vet as she was repeatedly regurgitating (not vomiting). Could you tell me a little bit about what it is?? What are the symptoms? How did you find out thats what he had?

JL, does Grayce have it?? I can probably get some good info on it. The woman that own's my Scout's mom had an older boy that had it. Sabre lived to be 14 yrs old.

She has not been diagnosed with it..it was just mentioned when I had to take her to the ER vet a little over a year ago. She was regurgitating and it was HORRIBLE. Stuff was just spewing out, no gagging, wretching or anything. It was the worst night of my life.

She also regurgitated (and not vomit) all night another time that she got into a jar of peanut butter.

She also will do it like once a week or so after eatting..no wretching or anything its just like a few little kibbles come back up.

She also does this swallowing thing. She will just swallow and swallow and swallow for no reason like something is caught in her throat. I also always use a harness for taking her on long walks because the slighest pull on her collar makes her start swallowing like that and often do a gagging cough.

So I often wondered since that time I took her and they mentioned megaesophagus if theres any chance she does have some issues w/ her esophagus. Shes really only had 2 major regurgitation incidents and otherwise it hasnt seemed to effect her very much.

I dont know anything about it and what the symtoms really are....thats why when he mentioned his dog having it I was wondering what its like.

Is it common it weims??

I don't think it is common in weims. I am not even sure of what the condition really means. I just know that Sabre apparently had bouts with it over the years. As he got into his older years he apparently had situations where he aspirated stomach contents into his lungs????

I had never heard of it before Sabre.
