Becoming a foster mom has been quite the wild ride! Having 2 Wemies around 1 year and 6 months old is pretty insane sometimes, but I sure do love having more than one around!
I had a tough go over the last weekend, and early of this week... I thought I wouldn't be able to let Sophie go. I was SO close to e-mailing the rescue to break the news... I don't know what changed, but I've thought long and hard about it and I have gotten my resolve back to find Sophie a home... I think it was having spoken to one of the potential families, I think they need her more than I do. There are so many great homes out there and we're simply not ready to actually own another dog, let alone keeping Sophie would eventually have put us in the position of having 3, since we're getting another puppy next fall...
So having been through that hurdle, I'm about to get crazy and take in a 2nd foster... Sophie and Sabriel will probably only overlap for a few days - there are 2 families coming to meet Sophie this weekend, I'm certain one of them will end up being her new home. I definately feel good about trying another foster... My husband is a bit apprehensive, but cooperative and understanding of my desire... he's so wonderful.
Nothing like jumping in head first! I'll take lots of pictures this weekend... Hopefully all goes well with 3 girlies running around! (yikes)

An update:
Sophie went to her new forever home yesterday... It's kind of eerily quiet around here this evening, but Luna's exhausted from our big training day too. I miss having shorty around, but I feel very very good about the family that adopted her... I even managed to let her go without crying... Somehow I'm sure they needed her more than we did, and I know they will take good care of her. They even promised they would send updates and pictures to us
Interesting side note, they had a Weim previously, her name was Blue. They lost her to cancer in December '07 (they wanted another weim because they had a void in their family without one, even though they have 2 other dogs!) - Turns out that Blue is from the same guy we got Luna from.... they're related in some distant way! Fate?
Sabriel has not yet come to stay with us, the rescue coordinator took her in to evaluate her a bit before she decided exactly what to do with her....
Thanks for everyone's kind words... I'm so glad we took Sophie in... I feel like everyone I know learned something from that little girl, and I'm so happy we could give her a loving place to stay. She's definately stolen a little piece of my heart. |
