Ok...so we all pretty much know the good and the bad of what fruit's and veggie's they can and cannot eat....but who has a list of meats? The good list and the not good list ( and maybe why it's not good).

Thanks for any help!

Well i pretty much feed Rocky everything to make sure i alternate and that way he as well does not get bored from eating just chicken. I feed him chicken, beef, lamb, and turkey. He will be trying pork for the first time this weekend. I have noticed that at least with him Lamb makes him a bit constipated so i always mix up some pumpkin when the days i feed him Lamb. I have been as well looking to find some rabbit. I know that you have to be a bit careful about feeding pork and lamb but i just cant remember on top of my head why exactly. I would have to look at my notes at home and get back to you on that. Ohhh by the way i also give him fish twice a week, just one meal and he absolutely loves it. I usually use caned mackerel, caned wiled salmon, or sardines in water. Rocky is not on a pray model so he all the food i give him its coarsely ground (bones, organs, and muscle meat). This is mostly due to my living situation since i cant just let him eat lets say a whole dressed rabbit in the house or outside, we unfortunately live in an apartment at the time.

I am also wanting to look into natural food diets. I have heard though that pork is not good for them. I was told never to give them bacon. I don't if it's just bacon or pork in general though.

I think, not exactly sure, that dogs have a difficult time metabolizing pork fat. It can be toxic if they eat a lot of it.
Good question, I've been wondering about dog safe meats also.

NenaGunther, so you do not feed pork at all? Is it bc its not readily available or bc you believe it causes problems ?

I take it you are talking raw here? I have fed all of the above mentioned (chicken, turkey, beef, lamb, rabbit, and venison) in raw patty form. I also cook some meats which is where I throw in some pork. I combine it with some beef and cook it. I also give sardines or mackerel once a week.

I have access to pork, I just have never fed it.
This is from one of the raw diet websites I get info from:

Is it safe to feed pork?
As with many other food items, feeding pork is purely a personal choice. But yes, it CAN be fed, safely. Some dogs do very well on pork and others don't (loose stools). If you'd like to feed pork but are afraid of possible trichinosis, it is recommended that the pork be frozen, at Zero degrees F for 3 weeks, to kill the flukes. The incidence of trichinosis is actually fairly minimal in most places now (particularly in inspected meats). Many have fed fresh pork (pork necks, being a favorite) without any ill side-effects. Be aware of smoked pork necks, as they are slightly cooked from the smoking process. Pigs feet can also be fed, but are very high in fat...something you may want to avoid if your dog needs to lose a pound or two.

Hi guys,
So this is the latest, Rocky is not taking Lamb at all! The last couple of times i fed him Lamb he got very constipated and he cried very loudly when he was trying to poop, so i added some pumpkin to fix the problem. The pumpkin worked but I am now wondering if he just knows that lamb makes him constipated and he just will not eat. Not sure what to do. Yesterday was his first day of lamb and he only ate 1/3 lb all day from his usual 3lb a day. Even whatever lamb he ate yesterday he ate bc i added some fish old on top of it which he dies for. I did the same thing this morning and he ate 1 lb this morning. Anyone else experienced anything similar? I don't know if its the lamb or he is just not feeling good and does not want to eat!

I feed pork, human grade from the grocery. Pork necks in particular, as said above. Sometimes loins, tongue, liver, etc. Too much of anything can be bad you need to make sure to do a well rounded diet, but in particular, liver.

Otherwise, chickens, turkey, beef, lamb, i've even tried bison. but it's usually quite spendy.

Stay away from onions, grapes and raisins PERIOD, very toxic. Broccoli in large quantities, not good. ... Umm, I stay away from too much citrus. I juice, so when if I add more than 1/2 an orange to my morning concoction I don't feed him the orange pulp. Otherwise it's got spinach, cucumber, celery, carrots, parsley, pears, peaches, apples, berries, leafy greens.

Yogurt, cottage cheese, ENTIRE eggs (shell included), if he needs to put on some weight I feed baked sweet potatoes without the skin (don't feed raw potato skins or anything else from the nightshade family, tomatoes, bell peppers, etc.) I'm uncomfortable feeding the skins even cooked. He gets glucosimine/chondroiton/MSM treats, fish oil with Vit E... erm... there is more I'm just blank lol

We feed organs (kidney, liver and heart) but in small quantities. You are only supposed to feed them 5% of their daily meal in organs and 5% in veggies. I know that there are plenty of raw feeders out there that feed green tripe instead of veggies, it provides the same nutritional values as veggies.

Isn't heart considered muscle meat, though? I feed an entire heart probably once every week or so. I also do about 10% veggies, but I guess that's just personal preference, i mix it with cottage cheese or yogurt.

Green tripe ((shudders in horror)) ... I still have some frozen in the freezer, I'm scared to pull it out. LOL When i pull out something to defrost, it stares at me... daring me to. But I just can't do it. Maybe one of these days!

I can't imagine what green tripe smells like (gag!) I tried the freeze-dried tripe, they kinda look like hockey pucks...Gag, Gag, Gag! Shocked

Never again. They are supposed to be very good for them, I can stomach alot, not the smell of this.

My guys LOVE green tripe. John and I were just talking about getting some for them today.

And they have eaten raw pork....not my choice, left some pork chops thawing on the counter unattended....dumba$$
