I am new to the site (I just found it today) and not used to blogging or forums.
We have a now 8 month old weimaraner named Lucy. My boyfriend got her for me for Christmas. We already have a yellow Lab who is 2 1/2 and always talked about getting another dog but planned on getting another lab. A few weeks before Christmas we were shopping at Borders and the local Weimaraner rescue was there wrapping books for donations. The dog they had with them was 7 or 8 years old and Joe took one look at his face and said I want one. We went home and starting researching online. The rescue only had dogs 2 years and older, and with Julia (our lab) we felt we should probably get a puppy. (Julia has always been spoiled and the center of attention, being an only child for so long) So I left for work that night telling him to do some more research and that we would look into further. I came home to this skinny, floppy eared puppy trying to bite my toes.
With Julia we knew what we were getting into with her breed, with Lucy we had now clue and still really don't. She became instantly spoiled. The first night Joe brought her into the bed and held her inbetween us under the covers (it was snowing and the middle of winter and she had no fat and such a thin coat!) and she has been there every night ever since. She is very crazy and likes to be in the middle of everything!
I am always looking for more information and advice. Our vet office doesn't have very many (if any) weims that come there, so I am always looking for advice on health related issues from people who have experienced them. The thought of bloat scares me to death and she always seems to hurt herself (she's very clumsy).
Thanks,
Karen |

Welcome! Both of my dogs are from Heartland-- the rescue I imagine you mention. And we drove all the way to St. Louis (almost 5hrs) to get one of them. Weims are either a love or hate breed. If you can get them enough exercise and training, they are definitely amazing dogs. And if not, they are amazingly troublesome. Take advantage of the wealth of info here. |
