I have been doing off lead heeling with Ruby for a couple of weeks now and she is getting better at turns etc.
I have been using super smelly treats to keep her attention outside however she keeps mouthing my hands trying to get the treat. I say leave it which she generally will, but will start again fairly shortly (I don't want to ruin the command). I stop and she will sit and stop mouthing. I have been raising my hand higher and higher trying to get her out of it but then she just jumps at me.
Those of you who do heeling work, have you had this problem and if so how do I break them from it?
just keep practicing?? LOL |

That's actually a good thing that she has such high food drive...but on the other hand it's annoying. You could ignore it and only reward when she leaves your goodies alone (no command, just "good heel" when she behaves). You could also try a toy or ball. I also try running when the attention starts to lag...or in your case when she pays too much attention to your hand! It's hard to mouth and run at the same time!
