hello!
i have some doubts about how I should feed my puppy (9 weeks) now, and when he gets older (I'm dead scared of bloat).
I've bought some elevated bowls... did I made it wong move?
should I trade it for a brake-fast bowl (medium size already)?
I'm feeding him 3 times per day...
can you help me out here?

I think there are mixed opinions on this forum some elevate and some don't.
As I understand it, current research says to prevent bloat DO NOT elevate so I don't. I don't use the brake-fast bowl either instead I just throw a couple toys (good and bad cuz) on top of his metal dish.
I think the brake-fast bowl now comes in metal...see the bottom...

| My older weim eats from an elevated dish because he always has. We're very careful about bloat so he gets no exercise before or after he eats and we mix water with his food. My young weim eats from a brake fast because she used to INHALE her food. It was more than just fast eating. By the time I would sit her bowl down and turn around to the counter, she would be finished. The brake fast is AMAZING is you have a fast eater. I also tried toys and other distractions in her bowl but she'd just throw them out. |

| Try thoroughly mixing the puppy's kibble with yogurt and pumpkin so that it's completely coated. This is the only think that has slowed Zane down and he prefers it like this. He eats piece by piece vs gulping, and he eats very slowly and then thoroughly licks the bowl, surrounding floor, and the front of the cabinet just to make sure he didn't miss any. If I don't mix anything in because I'm in a hurry or am out of something he just sits in front of the bowl and looks at me and the bowl until he realizes that that's the way dinner comes today! I have also melted a tablespoon of peanut butter and mixed it in when he was sick and wouldn't eat much, and got the same results. |
