| When we got Jake he had dark spots down his back and one dark spot on his back leg. Well now he has more dark spots and another big dark spot on his other back leg. It almost looks like a blue weim color. I am wondering if this is from bad breeding. I know he came from a puppy mill. he almost looks like a dalmation with his dark spots. I know weims are supposeto to be one solid color. Does anyone know why this is or have weims that are spotted? I will try to post a picture however we just got a new laptop and I have to figure it out first. |

He could be going through a coat change I guess. He actually is two
different colors at this point. He is shedding but his dark spots are getting larger. I am wondering if he will end up the color of the dark spots which is darker than any weim I've ever seen. I'm kind of at a loss and don't know who else to ask about this. I am concerned that nobody has actually responded to my post and makes me think this is very rare. I don't really mind because he's a pet and I love him the way he is. I just get a lot of comments on his coat. Compared to other weims at the dog park it is very noticeable. |

| I agree, your dog is going through a coat change. I also, rescued my weim from a shelter and her coat was a disaster! Honestly, the type of dog food can be another reason why their coat looks spotted. Cheap dog food, lacks proper nutrition. I would suggest giving your dog either fish oil or flax seeds on their food, it will help their skin and coat. |

You are not alone. My Jake is 8 months old and has developed dark spots on his back as well over the past month. I hope it will go away but from what I have read it appears that others are/have experienced this as well.
My husband and I discussed the nutrition factor causing a problem with his coat and causing the changes as well as he is only 20 inches tall but at full grown status he should be around 24-27 inches tall (his mom and dad both were pretty large so I would think he would be on the taller side) and he acts as if he is ALWAYS STARVING, stealing whatever is within his reach...yes; this includes freshly cooked meals we step away from to wash up before eating. We decided to find a better quality dog food fearing he was not getting the nutrition he needed. After reading and comparing ingredients on about 10 different varieties we decided to change to Bil-Jac; They do not use rice or corn gluten or other grain products for fillers. They use fresh chicken, actual chicken and chicken by-products (liver, and organs only). In addition they do not add rendered fats like vegetable oil, the fat in the food comes directly from the chicken itself. The cost was about the same as other so called "high end" dog foods.
I had him neutered about 15 days ago so he has been to the vet; they didn't comment about them so hopefully it is common. I will ask at the check up and post on it. |

| Is there any way you can post some pics so that we might see just how dark the spots are? what colour grey are the spots? (liver colour, brown, black or grey/black/blue?) |

Sure I will get some pictures of them tomorrow and post them. The spots are Grey, small and a couple of shades darker than his coat, they look just like water spots; I noticed a few more that appeared on his neck since yesterday, they appear to be moving up his back towards to front of his body. They have been isolated on the lower part of his back near the tail until the past couple of days. They are not getting larger just more of them. The only thing we have done differently up until yesterday when changing his food was I applied Advantix for flea and tick control but that was on the scruff of the neck and not down his back where the spots began to appear.
I honestly thought he had just gotten into some oil somehow; or changing knowing him since he steals any food he can get is big monkey paws on and is crazy over sticks of butter he would have gotten into an oily product in the kitchen. |

| An update on Jake's spots. He has now totally turned the color of the dark spots. So I would say it took about a month for his spots to go away and to become a solid color again. He was shedding uncontrollably. We got a rubber mit brush and boy did that take the dead fur out. I know now that he was just going through a coat change. |
